first of all, on ym first post to this forum, id like to thank all the contributors for an excellent little distro.

i'm having problems with my tv card, possibly driver related, that occurs when i switch channels.

it would seem that after a sucessfull install, and fetching of xml channel data, everything works fine, even the web/news/weather.

i think perhaps i fudged up somewhere tuning the channels in. is this necessary? i note that there are no frequency numbers in the setup of the channels, and i'm wondering that perhaps that this information was not provided when i populated the database with my channel data. this means that when i go to the channels, i get a pretty green screen with some fuzzy colourful bits at the top: no signal.

Occasionally, this crashes the frontend, and i can reload it through though blackbox (or is it flux??).

has anyone else had difficulty tuning after retrieving channel data, or is there some tuning step i'v missed?

thanks for your help in advance chaps.

Gabe.

EDIT:
quick note, i'v tried to:
options bttv card=34 tuner=5

in:
/etc/mythtv/modules/bttv

but its read only! and i'm not so clever with linux file permissions. how can i edit this file?

you need to edit the file as root. so you type su and enter the admin password you created during setup. then your prompt should change from $ to # then you will be able to edit the file. And editing that file and rebooting should be your first step as the leadtek cards usually do not autodetect correctly.

that was excellent, just the command i needed.

i researched the appropriate frequencies for my terrestrial tv, and sneakily input them via the web interface. all 5 channels now work.

I used:
http://www.wolfbane.com/uktv.htm

and...
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/terrestrial/tuning/

it has yet to crash.

there are some wierd issues however, with this setup. the first thing i noticed, flicking through the channels, wasthat there was no sound.

plugging my audio system directly into the card, causes a 2 second delayed output from the channel currently selected. This i can only assume is the encoding delay.

there is no sound being captured from my line-in. I have proven that linux has detected my sound card, by apt-get xmms and playing online radio. is there an application in this distro that lets me fix line ins and outs and such? or is it some daft editing of scriptys?

--thankyou again for your patience forum peoples.

- Gabriel

run alsamixer set linein as capture device and mute it.

and run your sound output from the leadtek into the linein on the sound card.
