Hi all,

i installed knoppermyth( latest version).

after rebooting i got a simmilar errormessage:

ALSA /usr/src/alsa/alsa-kernel/pci/cs46xx/cs46xx_lib.c:3138: ERROR:snd-cs46xx: never read ISV3 & ISV4 from AC'97
ALSA /usr/src/alsa/alsa-kernel/pci/cs46xx/cs46xx_lib.c:3139: Tryreloading the ALSA driver, if you find something
ALSA /usr/src/alsa/alsa-kernel/pci/cs46xx/cs46xx_lib.c:3140: brokenor not working on your soundcard upon
ALSA /usr/src/alsa/alsa-kernel/pci/cs46xx/cs46xx_lib.c:3141: thismessage please report to alsa-devel@lists.sourceforge.net
Sound Fusion CS46xx: probe of 0000:00:0d.0 failed with error -5

then i did an apt-get update, apt-get alsa, boot again ..... same error.
then i visited www.alsa-project.org and downloaded the newest drivers + lib + utils and installed them as described on the install-howtodo for the modul cs46xx. BUT: the errormessage from above appeared.

any solutions ?

Thx Schlaubi

also the modprob snd-cs46xx, was fine( no Output)
but after reboot the errormessage appeared.

A brief look at this forum and you will find that it provides excellent support. If people havent jumped to answer your question it is either because they don't know how to help you, or you havent provided sufficient information for them to even guess what your problem might be. For instance, an obvious thing for you to provide would have been details of the hardware that you are trying to get working, yet there is no mention of this in any of your posts.

1. No, use the Debian packages.
2. It is KnoppMyth not knoppermyth.

The original post with the error message CLEARLY stated to contact the ALSA developers. Have you?

Yes, on the same day as i post it here, but no answer untill now :-(

I try to make an uninstall in the alsa dir and to reinstall the original driver, but this doesn't work, tryed an apt-get update, apt-get upgrade, but one error apear, tryed to apt-get -f install to fix this, but it doen't help.

now i will reinstall the whole system, and try to fix my sound problem.

Hi,
Had simular issue with sb-16 & es1869 (I think it was). After you run alsconfig, and it idents your sound card, watch for the name of the driver. snd-cs46xx ?

Then do at # echo "modprob snd-cs46xx" > /etc/init.d.bootmisc.sh After a reboot it should work, most likely F11, F10 will work, maybe not F9

Worth a try. :)
Mike

ps I also # echo "ntpdate pool.ntp.org" > /etc/init.d.bootmisc.sh so the clock is retweaked on each boot....

Hi tjc,
Thanks for spotting that missing "e" as it could have caused some confusion.

I don't really expect a lot of people will be using the older hardware but one never knows? If someone were to collect all the little pieces of scripts that I have been leaving around to clutter up the forum, I think it might help them have a little better understanding of their system.

Appreciate you keeping tabs on my notes! :)
Mike
