Post subject:  HD Capture card with Component-IN & VRC

Hi All,

This is my first post here but have searched for hours online and throughout the forums to the answers for my questions which to date have had no luck finding.

Q1) Are there any HD capture cards that take component input instead of just coax? I want to go from my Dish 811 to the MythTV box and use it as a DVR, not necessarily to decode the signal as the signal coming out of the 811 is already decoded, just capture it. The 811 only has DVI and component outs so my HD-3000 can't take the signal.

I know the box can't capture through the DVI as it can't compress to MP2 fast enough, but what about component?

I found the following post but since it's 6 months old, not sure if somehting new has been released: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3025

I appreciate any help you can offer....thanks.

yes there are devices that can do that, but from what I understand they are all around $10,000 cause you have to capture the raw uncompressed analog data and compress it on the fly, certianly not within the capabilities of a regular computer.

That seems to support my current findings so far.

Oh well, hopefully this is or will be a common request and one of the capture card companies will step up and provide a solution.

I really appreciate you taking the time to post a reply.

Take care.

well there are two problems with that.

1) it will takes alot of hardware power to do what you are asking and that's just not cheap.

more importantly

2) you have to include the cost of all the lawsuits that the MPAA is going to throw at you and pray they can't get an injunction to prohibit you from selling the cards until the cases are over.

Does DISH have an offering that supports Firewire output? That might be a workable solution.

Getting HD content out of satellite is a real problem. I've all but abandoned my DirecTV setup because I can't get any HD programming out of it and into my Myth box. I dropped my HD subscription and the only reason I don't dump DirecTV altogether is because I watch a few shows on Comedy channel and Discover.

To tell the truth, I was pretty p*ssed off when they came to me and told me I had to get a DIFFERENT antenna, a THIRD LNB, and pay $10/mo. to keep my HD programming flowing. For some reason, the letters "F" and "U" came to mind...
