I had some issues previously that have now been sorted out. Thank you guys for being so patient!

I am running a Hauppauge PVR-150 with the blackbird (cx88) chipset.

I have installed the nvidia kernel driver and am using the example XF86Config-4.nvidia-tvout.sample file given. I only had to adjust the Option "TVOverScan" from "0.8" to "0.4" I can now have my entire menu on the screen and it is working beautifully.

I did an:
Code:
apt-get update
apt-get install libdvdcss
/usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/examples/install-css.sh

To play my DVDs and it too is working great. I see the entire picture.

My sound is perfect. I love it.

My issue is kinda odd, though.

When I go to play live TV I only get to view about 3/4 of the picture. It is almost as if the overlay is too large in the X and Y directions. Basically it cuts off the lower 1/4 and left 1/4 of the picture. When I play back something I recorded I get the same thing, but I believe that this is due to the card not providing the entire picture and not due to a display issue.

This issue occurs when I run only on my monitor and also when I run only on my TV.

Did I miss something obvious on configuration?

I'm running the R5A16 distribution of KnoppMyth.

this may not be your issue at all, but there is also an overscan option in the playback settings that only applies to the video you could try playing around with that and see if it helps.

Been there. It didn't do a thing other than shrink the video window size.

I've just redone my install. My install routine is now like thus:
Code:
apt-get update
apt-get install libdvdcss
/usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/examples/install-css.sh
/usr/local/bin/install-nvidia-7174-debian.sh
cp --reply=yes /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.nvidia-tvout.sample XF86Config-4

Edit the TVOverScan to be = to "0.4"
vi /etc/crontab
0 4 * * * /usr/sbin/ntpdate ntp.knowledge.or.id

I am still only seeing about 3/4 of the screen. I checked to see if this were the case before I updated the nvidia kernel driver and it was. Default install exhibited the same behavior.

Perhaps I am doing something stupid on the card database? I have chosen the (PVR-250 - PVR-350) option and that is what happens. I try the v4l option and the system locks up.

If you feel it would help I could provide the output of dmesg.

I'm stumped.

Update:
I just downloaded a file to my Windows box that I recorded via MythTV and it is, in fact, recording only about 3/4 of the area. My card is only sending that part of the picture out.

???

well you definitely need the pvr250/350 option, though the pvr150's are very new you may need to get a newer version of ivtv and or firmware.

Joy. Firmware. PLEASE lie to me and tell me that doesn't require my to put the thing in my Windoze box and is merely the ivtv-firmware package.

The last time I checked I was running the latest version of ivtv, however I've nuked my system many times since that whatever version of ivtv I have that came with R5A16 is what I'm running.

Attempting an upgrade right now via apt-get. That may help. Or not.

you can't upgrade ivtv via apt-get. Look at the wiki for the pvr150 page there are good instructions on how to update the ivtv drivers there. As for the firmware no you don't have to put it in a windows machine. you have to download it from the web and then use an extract utility to pull it out of the .exe file. I haven't done this in ages, so you'll have to search for specifics.

Change the recording profile to be 720x480 from the default of 480x480.
That solved my problem.

I may have to transcode (to be worked on real soon) to get to a smaller size after the job has ran.

Full details of both my stupidity on the whole MythTV thing and the help that was provided both in this forum and via IRC can be found here. Yeah, the title is inflamatory but reflected my frustration at the time.

Next on list is getting my ATI Remote Wonder working exactly the way I want it to (or the Hauppauge remote that came with the PVR-150 with the IR receiver that plugs into the back of the card).

After that I need to make the thing "user friendly" enough so that people can use it without any worries about the backend crashing or requiring a password to restart it if that happens. The keyboard will be put away in a back room.
