This being my first stab at trying any sort of video under linux, forgive me if I get ahead of myself or forget something. I tried to install Knoppmyth last night, and while the install was easy, the configuration has been nothing but trouble. My first problem was the lack of any live tv at all. I had misconfigured my video sources, but that was no problem, a couple minutes later I could view live TV. Problem was/is the live tv is extremely jerky (shouldn't be on this systems stats), the picture is very grainy, not to mention black and white. I thought I might have set the cable frequency wrong, so I switched it from us-cable-hrc to us-cable. The live tv is still very jerky althought I have some colour, but they are all incorrent and still grainy. I'm convinced my card must be set up incorrectly. Is there a guide on how to setup bttv (the driver I assume I should be using)? Also note I have searched this forums and others trying to find informaton on this. Stats: Athlon XP 2200+ 512 mb of RAM On board video Leadtek WinFast TV 2000 XP Expert |

If you are actually using the expert card you are doing better than most. And it doesn't use the bttv driver if it is actually the expert card it uses one of the c8xx drivers or something like that as it's a new conexant chip. If however you have the delux you probably need to tell it the card number and tuner type. |

I assure you, it is the expert. I'm going to try installing Myth from scratch rather then trying KnoppMyth. I'm guessing that KnoppMyth doesn't have the correct driver for this chip then. |

good luck I would check the mythtv mailing list. Last time I did which was admittedly a while ago that chip didn't work with myth, but it wasn't as close as you are describing either. |

After setting up debian and myth tv, and trying that route I notice that debian hasn't detected my tuner. I think to myself "easy, just patch the kernel". Not so easy, the kernel was 2.4 and the cx88 driver only compiles on 2.6. Thus I am giving KnoppMyth another shot. I have reinstalled and am at the exact same stage as last time. I have also noticed that during boot up, KnoppMyth incorrectly detects my card as the "Leadtek WinFast 2000 XP". Instead of the "XP Expert", if it incorrectly configures my card I assume it must be trying to use bttv instead of cx88 (does Knoppmyth even include cx88 support?). This may be my problem. How can I tell the system to use cx88 rather then bttv? How can I check that it is using bttv in the first place? |
