I am having a problem getting my tv card to recognize correctly. It is a pixelview 878PN+. It is a half height card with only a coax input. It has a conexant fusion 878a chip and a philips tuner.
Before I tried using knoppmyth, i got it working under straight debian, but it wouldn't autodetect their either when i loaded the bttv module, i would have to set the card and tuner type manually.
so far I like knoppmyth, it has been very easy to setup, but is there an easy way for me to specify the card type and tuner type so that when knoppmyth boots and autodetects hardware, it picks the right ones? (to over ride selecting card=0 and trying to detect; e.g. specify card=xx)
also any advice on the best card/tuner to use? if i remember correcty, one of the other pixelview models worked (this particular card isn't listed, i think i used the pixelview pro tv), but maybe someone knows of a better selection using this chip/tuner.
thanks!

You'll have to set it manually in KnoppMyth as well. You should be able to use the same card=XX and tuner=xx. Check the forums if you need more details. I've answered this question numerous times. Check the hardware recommendation section as well for ideas.

Pkobos, please reply in this thread (or email if you like, lubod@applelinks.net)
In answer to your question, I edit /etc/modules with the correct values, then run update-modules and reboot.
Correct values being something like:
bttv card=37 tuner=2
Seems like tuner 2 works ok, and any Pixelview card number, like 16,37,50 works.
I have the same card and have gotten only video, and somewhat jumpy/grainy at that from my card.
I'd love to hear what car, tuner, audiomux, dev/dsp settings you used, especially if you have/had everything including sound working in Debian or Knoppmyth.
FWIW I do have sound working elsewhere in KnoppMyth, like in the CD ripping and playback, so hardware is ok and ALSA should be ok. I also have a CD-audio type cable going from the header pins on the Pixelview to the motherboard AUX IN or CD IN jack (since the audio output is from built in sound).

I used to use a pixelview card and had problems with sound until I selected the right tuner type, so just because it tunes the picture, don't assume you have the right tuner parameter (my card was a PV-BT878P+(REV.9D)).
My tier2 post: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1740 See the note at the bottom.

I'll have a look at your post referencing tuner types, etc. That might very well be the key.
The same card works with sound under windows, but I do NOT want windows
Is there a way to capture what settings windows uses and feed them to bttv? Hopefully one that doesn't require a BS in Computer Science
I tried BTSpy from sourceforge
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... p_id=38123
and it made a text file with some parameters, which in theory should be input into the sourceforge Open Source Windows bt878 driver, but i have no idea if the info it gave is useful and how/where to put it in Knoppmyth.

I don't really know the answer to your questions but I suspect the set of tuner types supported by the bttv driver will not have any correspondence to anything that happens in windows, so using regspy will be a waste of time.
Someone posted a link a while back to a page that showed the set of supported bttv cards and I think it specified which tuner type to use for each.
The other alternative is to look in the cardlist file (can't remember where it is) and use trial and error until you find the tuner type that works. But again beware, I had one that was sort-of working but it was still the wrong one (as you would have seen by the comments in my post.
Edit: Read this post http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=715&highlight=bttv+list+supported and notice the search terms I used to find it as a hint on searching the forums.

I have a PixelView Play TV Pro BT878P+ (Rev2F). I use card =37 tuner=5
Works well, sound is a little low, but I am trying to channel it through my soundcard, but that is another story.

Thanks, I'll try card =37 tuner=5.
I also found a script utility that claims to find the right card/tuner combo automatically, haven't had time to test.
