I don't see this addressed anywhere else on the forums, and I had a post deleted by cecil in the "Installation" forum.

I'm attempted to complete my installation of Knoppmyth using firewire as my capture device. I was able to get this to work in FC3, but not using the current version of Knoppmyth. I am using a Comcast Motorola 6200 box and can change channels, but have been unable to capture any video. I can't tell if this is a Mythtv problem or driver problem since test-mpeg2 is missing from the distro. Any success stories and a quick howto?

Thanks

don't know what to tell you the one other person I've seen try to use firewire capture was also using moto 6200 said there was no special setup at all just added the capture and associated with a video source and it worked. I myself haven't been able to get comcast to give me a firewire enabled box yet.

Yeah, it's so weird the way that Cecil guy deletes off topic postings in sub-forums where he has posted multiple sticky warning messages titled "READ THIS BEFORE POSTING" and that say in boldface "Off topic postings will be deleted!". I mean, who would believe that he really means and enforces something he would bother to state that clearly and vehemently? ;-) ;-) ;-)

When I was a wee child, we had a Saturday morning program that featured "Cecil the seasick sea serpent." I wonder if they're related??

All about Cecil

I have made some progress. I re-installed FC3 and was able to capture HD content again, but not the "straight" digital channel I was trying. I'm re-installing Knoppmyth now to see if I get the same results.

This, of course begs the question, has anyone been able to capture non-HD digital TV via firewire? Is there really any difference between the HD streams and the regular digital streams?

I'll post any results I get here.
