the best i can tell, i have an ivtv problem. more specifically, i cant change chanels, and anything above ch 7 is static.
i need updated ivtv for my pvr 250. how do i get these? im not exactly sure. something about downloading them, which i could easily handle on THIS computer, but my mythbox, not the slightest idea.
from what ive gathered from "how to it" guides (which arent helping me at all) i have to download and install the new ivtv, but every guide ive used doesnt even come close to working.
examples.
"/etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv"
permission denied
"cd /usr/src
tar xvfj linux-2.4.25-chw.tar.bz2"
cannot open: file or directory does not exist
"lspci -v | less"
i find my pvr 250, but its not listed as unknown. its got all the details, yet it doesnt say anything about tuner type and number. (82, 83, 85, etc..)
again, my problem is channel 3, 4, 5, and 6 are all court tv, and the rest are static.
some one come hold my hand and tell me what im doing wrong? PLEASE!

if it adds anything, whenever i select "watch live tv" along with the static, it says "1: tuner 0" in the top left corner. man, i sure wish i knew what THAT meant...

It means capture card 1 input from tuner 0.
Have you done a search yet? A bit of research will provide details for how to look at the log files to find out if your card is being recognized correctly.

thats my point. ive searched my butt off. ive read SOO much on these forums, and can categorize my findings into three categories
1-i understand what i am reading, but it doesnt help me any.
2- i have no idea what any one is talking about
3- people telling other to search and find it on their own.
since my last post, i figured how to change
""cd /usr/src
tar xvfj linux-2.4.25-chw.tar.bz2" to
"cd /usr/src
tar xvfj kernel-source-2.6.11.9-chw-2.tar.bz2"
but i dont get much past that.
id REALLY like help with the basics. like downloading. mythtv, unless im blind, doesnt seem to have a decent web browser, so how do i go about downloading this ivtv stuff? im sure i could manage to unzip and install it from there, ive found PLENTY of guides for that, its the downloading that stumps me.

alright i plan on using this to help me intall the new ivtv, unless any one has anything better to offer. first, i have to get one of these files onto my myth box. i would bet money that this is going to be a stupid problem to solve, but untill i figure out how to download with this os, im screwed.

not really sure why the links didn't work right they look good to me could be you have to have a space after this before [ . you might want to have a look at this page it's about a pvr150 but has a pretty good rundown on installing newer ivtv drivers.

try just apt-get install firefox as there has been a bit of shakeup in the package names for firefox, or better yet use apt-cache search firefox and it should give you the right package name. make sure to run apt-get update before any of this though.

It's a little late now, but you don't need to install an entire web browser just to download files... you can use the command "wget " followed by the entire URL of the file you're trying to get.

Hi,
I should mentioned that you really should do apt-get update before anything else, that probably would have stopped the errors.
wget is very good when you know exactly what you want and how to get it.
You are limited in space so I would not suggest installing every package available. I however, do also use ftp, talk, and lpr as they are handy, but small tools. Worse thing that will happen is you break it So you do a reinstall or upgrade and start over and learn as you go.
I am using the R5A16 with very good results.
Good luck
Mike

Ok, i STILL am unable to change chanels on my mythtv. I have had this for TWO WEEKS, and im not making much progress. Ive searhced my ass off in these forums, and im learing alot, but its the little things that people seem to be taking for granted. The things no one bathers to explain how to do, because theyre "just so simple". well, with me being new to linux in its entirety, i REALLY need some one to hold my hand through this. I understand the apt-get commands now, and it seems to be very helpful, but I still can figure out a few things.
How do I download the new ivtv so when i run the commands, it find them? Using mozilla, a downloaded the new ivtv off of source forge, tried to run the install, and it said it couldnt find the file. wtf? i also tried the wget command with the same url i downloaded it with on sourceforge, and i get a 404 error every time. these ivtv's are driving me nuts, i just cant figure them out.
also, when i try this code
Code: 1) cd /usr/src 2) tar xvfj linux-2.4.25-chw.tar.bz2 3) cd /usr/local/lib/ivtv/ 4) mv driver/ driver.old
i get stuck on the bolded line, because it tells me there is no such file or directory. i changed the numbers to match the ones on my distro (2.6.11.9-chw-2) but that didnt work either. im assuming im using R5V5, wather than R5V4, and thats part of the problem, but im not sure.
last, how do i copy the "logs" as i think theyre called so that i can post them on the forums? im doing all my coding with <alt-ctrl-f1> (or f2/f3) and i see no way of copying anything from there, and bringing it to my mozilla running on X.
and im really not trying to sound like im ungratful, because you really have been alot of help so far, but the response "search is your friend" is really gettin a little old. I ask a question, and the response is to search the forums. i do so, and only find other people, with the same problems, who were told to search the forums as well. im really having trouble finding an answer. so please, feel generous and help me out.
