Post subject:  Refresh rate/AVerKey question

From the docs:

Quote:
At the splashscreen press:

* for no TV out:
<ENTER>
* with TV out:
tv<ENTER>
This will set your video adapter to a resolution of 800x600.
Note: You'll still need to edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 to change the refresh rate or you CAN destroy your TV.

This is if you're using a video card's video out, right? Since I'm using an external adapter to output the signal to my TV, an AVerKey 3 Plus, that will do the refresh rate conversion on its own, correct?

Thanks,
-David

If you are using a true scan converter (any of the ones that output svid usualy are.) then it will handle everything, If you are using the vga -> component converters they only change rgb to component cypbblahwetever it is. so they do not touch the refresh rates or resolutions or anything like that it all has to be right in the config file.

From AVer's FAQ http://www.aver.com/support/faq_comptv.shtml#Q1

6. My VGA is card is not compatible with the AVerKey Plus software drivers.
If the software driver does not detect your VGA card correctly, you can run the AVerKey Plus without any driver. Set the resolution of you computer to 640x480 and the refresh rate to 60Hz. The AVerKey will work without software in this situation.
If you are using an AVerKey Plus with a laptop, it is recommended that you do not use the software driver at all. Just connect the AVerKey Plus VGA card socket to the VGA out of you laptop. Then setup the resolution of you operating system to 640x480.

The manual does refer to the unit as a scan converter. What do you suggest I do?

well it says right there in the instructions to set your resolution to 640x480 and vert refresh to 60, so what do you want me to tell you that is what I would do. Anytime you are connecting to a monitor in any way I would suggest starting with a 60hz vertical refresh.

Just doublechecking as to whether or not it's a full scan converter or what. Yes, I know post bumping can be annoying but that's the answer I was looking for. Thanks!
