Does anyone have an elegent solution for using an IR receiver w/ mythtv? I think it's odd that the happauge cards don't have an IR jack on the part of the card in the case, in order to help this situation. Is there another option for IR? I've seen cases with built-in IR, does this work well with mythtv?

you can wire your own reciever and make is as elegant as you want. There is an example of one hidden in a model tiefighter.

I suppose you could mount the thing in the case with the IR receiver peeking out a custom hole.

I mounted my curcuit in a small 1" cube of oak that matches my entertainment center.

I just ran the cord up from behind the TV and draped it over the top so that the sensor hangs in front of the upper right corner of the case. Black plastic on black plastic so most of the time it's effectively invisible. Before that I had it wrapped around the base of the case so that the sensor peeked out at the lower corner and was possibly even less visible but the line of sight was pretty putrid.

There are all sorts of ways you could hide the sensor better, but as far as I'm concerned there are a lot more important things for me to worry about.

Making my own receiver sounds interesting, I may try that. I would like to try it for if I ever build a frontend only box.

The neatest IR receiver I saw was a plastic rectangle that you stick behind the grill of your centre channel speaker. Can't find the URL now, but I think it was at a home automation web site shop.
