HeyHey~

So I've searched for the terms I think this might be called: banding, interlacing, horizontal, synchronization, refresh.. and on etc.

None of the postings I've found really describe what I'm seeing, so I mocked something up in P-shop which demonstrates:
Image

you notice the arrows I've added, see the parts which don't line up? This is happening during video and DVD playback and only when there is a great deal of motion in the picture. It doesn't happen in live TV viewing or viewing recorded shows. file type doesn't seem to matter either as it does it with mpeg divx or whatever. Happens with mplayer (my default) or xine.
It does it using bobx2, linear, kernel, pretty much all the options for interlacing. I have Xvmc option checked

So the question, what is the terminology for what is happening so that I can use the search function before asking anyone for help?

/scared to post asking for help now... just give me the terminology and I'll go figure it out myself ~~thanks!

one thing to note is that neither dvd or playback from the video section use any of the settings you mentioned. those are only for livetv and recordedtv. dvd and video playback use mplayer, and you would have to find the equivalent command line parameters for it and add them to the command in setup to use xvmc, or deinterlace.

What '-vo' option are you using in your mplayer command? I'm using '-vo xv' but I did notice that when I tried other -vo options, like '-vo gl' I got that same effect during horizontal motion.

Of course, you may be getting it for different reasons, but try adding '-vo xv' to your command to see if it goes away.
