I'm thinking about upgrading my home LAN from its current 100 Mbps setup to the faster 1000 Mbps now that there are several router/firewalls out there that support the gigalan standard.

Will my current R5A15.1 install detect a gigalan NIC? If so, can those using 1000 Mbps NICs that worked out-of-the-box with R5A15.1 or R5A16 please repond with the brand/model of the NIC?

Thanks all.

The Gb LAN on my Nforce3 based motherboard worked out of the box with the forcedeth driver. Since my router/switch and other NICs are only 100Mb, I can't say whether it would work at Gb speeds but I'm guessing it would.

Thanks for the feedback... how did you know you're using the forcedeth driver and did Knippmyth detect/install it automatically?

Log files...
Code:
root@black2:~# grep eth0 /var/log/dmesg
eth0: forcedeth.c: subsystem: 01695:100c bound to 0000:00:05.0

And it was autodetected without any trouble in R5A16.

I was concerned enough about this to have picked up an inexpensive spare D-Link NIC when I was ordering parts for this machine, but it turned out to be a non-issue.
