Does anyone know if this product:
http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=318
can be used as a MythTV frontend. I did some searching and came up empty handed. If anyone is currently using one, or knows where there is perhaps documentation of someone using this appliance as a front end please let me know. Thanks.

It needs a media server to connect to, there is a linux version at
http://www.twonkyvision.de/UPnP/index.html for 15 EUR.
Running it on your mythtv-backend, you could share your TV recordings, videos, music and pictures. Is this what you want or do you want a real MythTV frontend?

Yeah, i'd much rather have a true frontend. I think i'm leaning towards an Xbox for a cheap frontend...

as an xbox frontend user, I do think the value is good. I however have recently had more problems with the xbox as a front end than they are worth IMHO. I really like the value it offered when I started out with myth, but with the latest updates, the xbox has really been a pain to tweak to get good playback with out the hiccups and skipping. I am moving my second frontend (bedroom) from an xbox to a Mac Mini. Much quieter, and much more expensive, but with the ati wonder remote, this is working much better. There are other PC options, but form me getting noise levels down is key at this point. Maybe with older age, but damn I look at all the noisy over-clocked machines I used to build, and can't believe how much money I wasted on loud obnoxious crap.
These dlink's I was looking at too, but I do like the idea of a full front-end and constant user interface between different tv's in the house. This adds to the WAF too, so that is important. I could see using one of these in a location only I was going to access.

At $500 for a mac mini I could build a pc frontend and put a PVR150 in it for watching live tv, and an fx5200 for good quality video viewing. How is the quality of video on the mac mini? Can you install KnoppMyth on the mini? What is the ati wonder remote?
Why go mac mini? Reduce noise? Does it play DVDs?

I've included CyberMediagate with R5 for just such a UPnP device. CMG however only streams the video files (recorded programs).

I have a dsm-320,
My backend is a pvr-250..
I am currently "playing" with it. I have Cybergate enable and running. The DSM Sees it fine. However when trying to launch the recorded programs, the DSM comes back and says "file not found"..
I know the myth records the programs in straight mpeg2.. So the dsm shouldn't have any problems playing it. Unfortunally the dsm doesn't have any Debug capabilities...
Currently, I have twonky installed on windows and my next plan of attack is to share the recorded programs across samba then share it with twonky.. That way i can ensure the programs can be read by the dsm ok.
has anybody else experiemented with the dsm?

Cesman, I've noticed that CMG has problems streaming when fast forwarding on my Buffalo Link Theater. I've confirmed the problem is on the server by copying a recording over to my uShare server on my xbox, which serves the content fine. There are some other small problems too. Do you know who I should report bugs to?

Thanks Nigel. My player still doesn't exhibit the proper functionality, and I'd like to help troubleshoot the problem (I've opened ticket 3344). Since then, I upgraded to SVN 13445, but that still didn't fix the problem. I understand the Link Theater is a Syabase player like the Avel Link-Player. That patch with ticket 2500 removes Content-Range headers from the http: response, but I'm not sure how to check what is going on during a fast forward or rewind operation. Is there some log to see what http: urls the mythbackend receives when I press FF? Is there a log that indicates the response? Thanks in advance for any tips.

You would have to run the backend with -v upnp. Either manually, or by adding ',upnp' onto the end of the ARGS line in /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend, running that script with restart, and examining its output in /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log

Thanks Nigel. I have generated some errors and will update the ticket with the logged errors. I also sniffed packets with Wireshark, but there's so many of them that it is hard to determine which ones would be useful to the developers.

Eureka, I've found the problem in the code, and corrected the patch with ticket http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/2500. I posted the patch in trac for http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/3344. Thanks for your hints Nigel -- now I hope the developers commit my patch.
