I installed the nvidia driver using the script and it made xwindows look really good on the tv-output (1024x768). But now if I use <ctrl><alt><f1> to get to a text console the tv can't sync with the signal. It looks like when you set the refresh rate too high on a computer monitor.

Durring bootup the text console outputs everything normal. By normal I mean the TV syncs to the signal just fine. And I use to be able to use the consoles before installing the nvidia driver.

Is there a file somewhere that defines the resolution and refreshrates for the text consoles?

edit lilo.conf and make the vga line read

vga=normal

then run lilo -v
and reboot.

The first line of my lilo.conf is vga=normal already. I ran lilo -v anyway and rebooted. I still can't view the consols.

Where are the settings for the nvidia driver? It must be there because I only got this problem after installing them.

sorry to say, but sometimes there's just nothing you can do about it. there is a known bug. generally if you use vga=normal then the problem goes away, but not always. You can try to make sure you are not using any sort of framebuffer in X as that is where the problem lies.

Where would this be? Somewhere in the XF86Conf-4 file?

well that would be a good place to start looking, quite honestly I'm not 100% sure, that's why I didn't specify.
