I am contemplating moving from my 10 year old Sony Trinitron CRT, to a Projector or Plasma setup for my tv room.

I normally use S-Video out from a FX5200 card on my main myth back-fronend machine. While testing some DLP projectos, I hooked them up via VGA and reverted back to the non tv-out XF86Config-4 file, and rebooted. The display and and menu interface looks fantastic, and everything seems to be working, but when trying to watch TV, I get nothing but black. No OSD, nothing. XVMC is off, I use libmpeg2 since the XV is so buggy for me. Any ideas why this is doing this?

Is this when trying to watch live TV, or a recorded show? There are many reasons why you may get a black screen when trying to watch live TV. What kind of capture card do you have?

If you're trying to watch a recorded show when you get a black screen, you may want to try dropping into X-Windows to see if the file plays with mplayer. E.g.

mplayer -vo xv -vc mpeg12,ffmpeg12, /myth/tv/yourshowname.vob

This isn't suggested as a workaround, but rather to see if you're running into a problem with MythTV's TV playback settings or a general problem with your X settings.

It does do this when playing back recorded video, but again only when using VGA out. 18 months of myth and it has worked fine with S-Video out. Umm, I will need to try it with mplayer directly. PVR-250 cards, and I know my IVTV setup is fine. I will just stick to S-Video for now until I have more time to trouble shoot the VGA out problem.
