I'd like to send digital audio out from my system, either coax or optical works with my reciever. I don't think the motherboard I'm looking at (Foxconn NF4K8MC-EKRS) has support for it besides a header on the mobo, but I do have a Sound Blaster Audigy lying around (I'm not sure if its a 1 or a 2, I'll have to look at it). Is Knoppmyth compatible? I also have a SBLive24 sitting around, but I haven't looked into using that card as much. Does it have digital out? And, more importantly, is it more compatible?

Also, what about DVD-Audio compatability? Its not going to be the primary purpose for this system, but it would be a nice add on. Thanks

and, if anyone would care to help me look over my system for incompatibilities, I'd be grateful.
Athlon64 3000+ (939, Venice)
nForce4 (vanilla) Foxconn NF4K8MC-EKRS (any other micro atx suggestions?)
1Gig pc3200, cl2.5
Gygabyte Geforce 6600 (what about ATI X700? 128MB vs. 256?)
Sound Blaster Audigy (I'd like to use the coax digital out, does it work?)
I plan to use the firewire out on my DC6200. Does that work?

And what about the built in stuff on the motherboard like GbE and maybe the audio if I choose to use it?

I recommend that you visit ALSA's soundcard matrix to get answers to your main question. Here's the link to the Creative Labs section: http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/in ... abs#matrix

I was in touch with Creative Labs recently, and they could not recommend a card that actually implemented S/PDIF. Apparently they have some broken form of S/PDIF on newer cards that requires a proprietary add-on card in order to do anything.

As for DVD audio, if you get digital audio working properly, then any audio from mono to multitrack digital should go through your digital audio cable and work just fine.
