Hi guys. When I try and shutdown my system via Putty using
Code:
shutdown now

I get the message "The system is going down to maintenance mode NOW !!"

and then nothing, it just sits there until I hard reset. Which log file should I be looking in for errors to problems when the system is trying to shut down?

Thanks.

Well, do you want to shutdown or reboot? Perhaps power management is disabled in the BIOS?

Thanks, I'll give halt a go.

I wanted to shutdown. 'reboot' works fine and reboots the system.

I think what cesman was trying to say is that you didn't tell the shutdown command what you wanted to do.
shutdown -h now = halt or shutdown the computer
shutdown -r now = reboot
