After getting my firmware to load correctly on my pvr250, I can select the "watch TV" option and change channels fine etc, but the performance is poor. It is dropping frames pretty badly, with choppy sound as well. Here is my setup: amd 64 3200 ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 1Gig DDR Ram PVR250 Capture Card Gigabyte Nforce2 chipset MB I have gone into Utilities/Setup->Setup->TV settings->Playback and selected "Use the PVR-350's TV out / MPEG decoder" and it doesnt seem to help. I have also updated the ATI video drivers. Yeah I have the 250, but I have seen several recommendations for checking this under settings for the 250 to clear this problem. Doesnt work for me. |

Another useful piece of information. When I run xvinfo: Code: X-Video Extension version 2.2
screen #0 no adaptors present Anyone know why it is showing no adapters present and what to do about it? Thanks for the help. |

Using an ATI graphics card for TV out is currently unsupported and essentially a crap shoot. There is some more information here but it's substantially harder to get working than the supported options and many cards apparently won't work at all.. http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=VideoCards If you do try to get it working please take good notes and create a detailed HowTo on the Wiki. Despite many requests nobody has done so yet. |

Thanks for the info. I switched out the video card for a geforce 6800 GT. Im not getting any errors now from mythfrontend, and the video looks a little better (although not as good as just having the cable connected to the TV). The sound is skipping at times and acts like it is trying to keep up. I am running sound from the onboard sound on the motherboard. Should I run it from the pvr250? |

I was just looking at your hardware (BTW - you mean Nforce3 or more likely Nforce4 for you chipset - if it has PCIe definitely the later) and you really shouldn't be having any problems with it keeping up on SDTV since you've got enough horsepower there for HDTV. Go through the TV settings (general and playback) and play with your audio buffering, timebase, ... Definitely uncheck the PVR-350 option if you haven't already. OBTW - For info on how to tune up your Nvidia TV-out and get it applied on each restart search for nvidia-settings here and on the wiki. |

Yeah sorry.. Its a Gigabyte GA K8N Pro, which uses the Nforce3 150 chipset. I unchecked the "use pvr350" otion in settings. It didnt seem to make a difference. Basically the video looks like vcr quality right now. I was expecting better video quality, especially given the hardware its running on. Anu ideas? |

Tune up your TV-Out. I proved to myself that the PVR-250 was capturing at a very good quality by burning a recording to DVD and playing it back in a commercial DVD player where it looked great. This was with my previous machine (Shuttle SN41G2 based) and the DVD made it obvious that the biggest quality hurdle to overcome was the output. When I upgraded to the new machine one of the first things I did was run nvidia-settings. If you're using a 0.3 series IVTV driver check it's reputation over in the IVTV forums, mailing list archives and the like. Some of them have quality problems with various card version or tuners. Oh, and as always with A/V quality issues, check your cables. Not just that the connections are good, and that you're using screw on rather than push on coax connectors, and good quality cables, not cascading splitters or splitting too many ways, and ... but check routing to eliminate cross talk. There's more than one quality thread around here that starts "so I moved the system and the quality suddenly sucks" or ends "so I moved the system and the quality suddenly improved". |

I have tried running nvidia-settings, and this helped a little with my Xserver picture quality, but the video playback while in the "Watch TV" mode is still not that great. I havent tried watching a DVD or anything yet, but I am sure the quality will be similar. I am confident that the problem is the quality of the TV out. I have a Geforce 6800 GT connected to my TV via S-video. I am using 0.3.7k version of ivtv. I read about using nvtv to adjust the TV out settings, but nvtv shows "no cards supported" (running it as root). I think I need to adjust the modelines in the XF86Config-4. Right now I am running at 800x600. Any other suggestions? Anyone have experience using the video card for TV out? |

nvtv doesn't support the newer nvidia cards. someone recently posted a link to a program that does I believe it's called yanc |

You know it someone would provide detailed instructions on something to setup TV out, etc. Which ever program is the best, recommended may get included in a new release.... Just a thought. |
