Hi,

I've installed Knoppmyth successfully on my machine. Everything works fine, the only problem is, that the cpu usage is very high. I can only use the RTjpeg encoder. It has already a usage of about 70% for watching live tv. When I change to mpeg 4 the usage is at almost 100 %, for only recording without watching tv. Is that normal, or is anything wrong with my system? I've heard that 1,5GHz should be enough to encode an mpeg4 stream and watch it at the same time...

My system:

ECS K7S5A + Athlon XP 2400+
512 MB RAM
Terratec Cinergy 600 TV

Thanks, Phil

Where does "top" say the bottleneck is? (If you have a machine you can ssh into the KnoppMyth box with, just connect and run the command "top". This will give to a dynamic display of which processes are creating the most load. However, from what you've said, I'm guessing that you already know this...)

something sounds wrong on my old athlon XP 1700+ I could use a software encoder doing mpeg4 at about 60-70% utilization. what resolution and bitrate are you using? do you have dma enabled on your drive? (though you would most likely get choppy video without it regardless)

Loging into the KnoppMyth box from a second machine is exactly what I did. It's the backend which is creating the most load (90% and more). I'm capturing (no live tv) with 480 x 480, a bitrate of 1800 and very low sound quality. Is there anything wrong with those settings?
