Well I just finished creating my MythTV box.... only problem is that I did it all on my main desktop pc. So now I decided that since I know how it all works, and have come to like the features... its time to build a new machine JUST for my MythTV box. My goal is to make one as cheap as possible with parts that will work with out any tweaking. Here is the list I have so far, all from newegg.com since it was just easy to start with. I figure I will get a hard drive via bestbuy, compusa or someplace that is offering rebates.

Hardware and Prices:
PC CHIPS M925G V9.1B Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - $36.00
MSI Geforce MX4000 MX4000-T64 Video Card - $26.00
Hauppauge WINTV-PVR-150 WinTV-PVR-150 - $91.99
512 PC 2100 Ram - $39.91
LITE-ON Black 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM IDE DVD-ROM Drive Model SOHD-16P9SBLK - $21.99
Intel Celeron D 325 Prescott 533MHz FSB Socket 478 Processor Model BX80546RE2533C - $70.99
ASYS 001MJA Black Computer Case - $29.99

Grand Total: $316.87

I went with the pvr-150 because it was $40 less than a 250... what should I change on here and umm yeah please give me some ideas on what needs changed and where I can get it... All in all I want this to be around $300 with out the hard drive... Thanks.

I think your RAM is too slow for the CPU. Also make sure the RAM is known to be compatible with the Mobo by checking the RAM or MoBo makers websites.

Oh and noisy case, PS and CPU fans are their own punishment. ;-)

I checked all the specs of the list, everything should work fine with eachother. I have built many other machines... but never a dedicated Myth box. Any suggestions on the hardware that I have selected?

I don't see any known show stoppers. Have you checked the Wiki pages on Hardware configurations? http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... areConfigs

BTW - Where is your HD? Is this supposed to be a diskless frontend? Whoops never mind, still shopping for that I see.

Yeah I am just going to wait to get a nice 300 gig drive of something from best buy or circuit city.. jsut wait for a nice deal with rebates. And with the cpu fan and case fans I plan on buying some quiet ones ... but to start off mainly jsut want to get the main hardware setup first.. then the small stuff later ;)
