Has anyone set-up a system that uses a set-top-box (STB) with digital cable? How did you set it up? How are you switching channels?

Search on my nick for some posts on this topic. You'll need a channel changing script, a serial cable, and some luck since most of the damn cable boxes are programmed not to use the serial cable.

Thanks, just finished reading the thread regarding this topic. Sounds like there's still a lot of room to grow in the HTPC market. I'm surprised someone hasn't designed a tuner card that can download codecs (for lack of a better word) for various cable company STB's. Oh well, guess I'm stuck with the standard Tivo for now. :(

Designing one card decode them all would be hard to do since the companies care more about scrambling content than following standards. :(

I don't know...Don't have one, don't need one. :D I think they would do it the same way you'd would do it w/ a MythTV boxen, video/audio out of digital box to capture in and some "IR controller" device to change channels, etc. on the digital box.

yes I don't have one either, but that's what I would think it does, and I'm pretty sure I've heard that is exactly what it does, but the other poster said he guessed he was STUCK with standard tivo. I don't see the difference in using an irblaster and a tivo blaster or whatever they call it, so why should one be STUCK with tivo?
