Has anyone had success in getting the new(er) Fusion Lite card working with Knoppmyth? I've seen reports and how-tos for the DVB-T version, but nothing for ATSC. On another note. I got R5A22 up and running with an HD3000 card, and all looks great so far. Good job, guys! jim -------------------------- |

It looks like I found the answer on my own. The 2.6.13 Kernel does start supporting the DVico Fusion Lite card DVB-T, but there's been several patches up through the 2.6.14 rc5 Kernel adding support for the ATSC version. It looks like I'll be digging into the wonderful world of Kernel compiling and upgrading. That or manually adding patches to the current Kernel. Any hints on this from the experts? I'll post my results once I get some. I'd think the DViCO card would be generating a lot of interest. You can pick them up for right around $100, much more reasonable than the Air2PC and/ or HD3000 cards. Hmmm. jimc ----------- |

I think the best recent guide for compiling the kernel was actually in the thread about the twinhan cards locking up. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... 9&start=31 |

It took a while, but thanks to Greg and Cesman, and several hours of research learning about kernel compiling, and CVS, and many other things I never thought I needed to know (and actually didn't need to know), I got it to work. I'm far far from any sort of linux guru, but I was able to stumble through this. And since I made a lot of mistakes, maybe I can help the next guy who tries. In the end what I ended up doing was upgraded to the 2.6.14 kernel, and installing the CVS updates for video4linux and DVB_kernel. This got the card to show up in the DVB list, the same as an HD3000 card. What I've come to believe, though, is that the kernel itself didn't need to be upgraded (the needed changes are included in the CVS updates), and possibly not even recompiled (knoppix r5a22 is already compiled correctly, I believe). Just installing the CVS updates of the video4linux and DVB_kernel drivers would have done it. It wasn't until I became familiar with what actually happens in a kernel recompile that I figured this out. So, here's what's needed: Follow the instructions here: http://linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index.php/ho ... d_from_cvs the CVS update goes quite smoothly. Be very patient with the linuxtv.org website, it seems to be down quite often, especially when you do the cvs portions of the instructions. A couple caveats with the instructions: Step 2 says follow your normal procedure for recompiling and installing your kernel. What the recompile does is set module support for DVB, which I believe r5a22 is already compiled as such. So this step can be skipped. Do steps 3a and 3b. 3c is not needed, do steps 4a through 6a, then step 7, but instead use: modprobe -v bttv modprobe -v dvb-bt8xx If you want to play around with recompiling kernels, there's a link with excellent instructions here: http://www.e-aiyama.com/~toshi/Computer ... mpile.html If all this is too much, these changes are expected to be in kernel 2.6.15, and I'd assume the next version of Knoppmyth will have at least that, so support will be built in, so you could just wait. My main goal with this was to see if the 5th gen card actually does do better with multipath rejection, and I'm happy to say that it does seem to. It looks like I'll have an HD3000 card to put up on ebay soon. jimc ---------------------------- |

Have you tried using QAM with your Dvico card? I have the Fusion 5 Gold, and I'm looking to do what you have done, didn't know if you had any experience with the cable signal that is sent in the clear. Also, I'm using the latest KnoppMyth, which has kernel 2.6.13. Do you anticipate the 2.6.15 kernel in the next release? Thanks, I'm in the infancy stage of my Myth box, and so I've been building and rebuilding it while trying to get things figured out, and the biggest unknown right now is the QAM support on the Dvico. Jrog edit---- I just looked at the CVS article to build Video4Linux, and it had no text on the page... more hunting is in order. |
