Please correce me if I am wrong. The airstar hd5000 works in the 5a22 release. Am I correct in thinking that the hd5000 only works as a tuner not a encoder. What would be a mpeg encoder (preferably hardware) that would work with the hd5000. Rkshack |

the 5000 is a tuner for ATSC hdtv signals, and ATSC is transmitted already encoded in MPEG2, so no encoding is necessary. |

What if I want to watch/record a sd channel. I beleive it will be broadcasted in ntsc. Will I need an encoder. Does mythtv give me the ability to change the recording resolution on my non hdtv content. Rkshack |

If you are watching a sd program from an ATSC broadcast it will be in mpeg2 as well just lower resolution, if you are just wanting to get ntsc cable or broadcast the hd3000 is not the card for you, it can do it, but not well, and it cannot do ATSC and NTSC at the same time. |
