I have not fully characterized the behavior, but it goes something like this: If I pause live tv for too long the system will freeze for a short while if I try to rewind. Once the problem occurs I can hit rewind and it will run at 3x rewind fine. If I hit rewind again it will jump to 5x rewind for about 3 seconds then it will freeze for about 15 seconds then start rewinding again. Same thing happens each time I press rewind after that. If I stop watching live tv then start again everything works fine until I pause for a long period. I ran top while this was occuring and I noticed that when the system freezes the frontend cpu usage drops to almost nothing. Once it begins rewiding again the frontend cpu usage pops back up. The last thing I noticed was that when I'm watching live tv or a recorded video my free ram starts clocking down. I have 512MB in the system. When I first start live tv it there is about 225000k free. It will clock down to about 5000k free and then remain there until I stop watching recordings or live tv. I thought this might be related to the first problem, but apparently is not. It takes about 5 minutes to clock down to 5000k and I need to pause for longer periods to see the freezing problem. This is actually normal, if somewhat disconcerting, behaviour, at least with the PVR cards. The longer you've been paused the longer the delay will be if you try to reposition. This is because it has to do some kind of frame indexing to skip to the requested position in the stream. As soon as the indexing is done subsequent moves are very fast. |

Thanks for the response. After doing some reading it looks like the RAM situation is normal too. |
