pretty simple really, I already have the hardware, just looking for advice if it will work out of the box or if i need to change anything(if so what), plan to use R5A26: Sempron 2600+ Biostar 6100(s754) 512MB ram 160GB HDD(IDE) DVD Drive(not burner) Hauppauge PVR-150 Either ATI Remote Wonder I or remote from PVR-150, whichever works better(advice please  )

The chipset on that motherboard is an unknown quanity with Linux. Probably not a good idea. Everything else looks OK based on the level of detail you provided. |

i have used the mobo(gfx also i suppose) under FC4(complete failure while folowing Wilsonet) it worked fine so i guess that means i have to go set that up also any advice on the remote thanks |

If the 150 comes with a remote use that, if not the ATi is a fine remote. |

actually the ati is remarkebly easier to set up, just plug it in and it works, wish i could say that for the gfx how do i revert to standered VESA driver that you start with, the newest nVidia driver doesnt support the 6100? thanks again |

I love it when folks ask for advice, ignore it, and then suffer the consequences. It restores my faith in causality.  Like I said, not well understood or supported yet, not a good idea.
The VESA driver is almost certainly not going to give you acceptable performance for playback. The main issue is lack of Xv support and related acceleration. You may not get anything but a black screen for video playback as a result. |

the parts were already purchased before i even made that post, is there a way to revert to the VESA driver or should i move on to a forum where a man isnt flamed for asking a simple question |

I wasn't flaming you, I was enjoying the black comedy. One of the pleasures/privlleges of age. There's a German word for it that refuses to come to mind right now... One of the problems of age. (Getting old sucks, but it beats the alternatives.) There's an X configuration script you can run whose name escapes me, and I'm away from the KnoppMyth box. Type X or x and hit tab a couple times to see your completion options, the name should be obvious. In the old days you symlinked X to the right driver, these days I think you just change the Driver setting in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. |

Well the command should be one of xf86cfg or xf86config or ... As for the other approach, fire up your editor of choice (if you don't know I suggest nano) on the file /etc/X11/XF86Config-4: Code: nano /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 And change the part that says: Code: Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0" Driver "nvidia" To say Driver "vesa" or maybe Driver "nv" instead. |

ok thanks will try that as soon as i finish a BF2 binge should i run that command as root? EDIT: how do i save that file afeer i edit it |

It's right there in the help list at the bottom of the nano screen (which is why I suggested it over some other editor) Ctrl-O or F3 writes the file. Ctrl-G will give you more help. |

thanks, none of the drivers (nv, vesa, or nvidia) got me past the error which leads me to beleive the problem may be elsewhere unfortunately i lack the knowledge to figure that out any ideas? |

Since you haven't provided any real details on the problem you're having the best I can do is point you at this: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CheckingLogFiles I think the biggest problem you're having is going off halfcocked. Stop, step back, slow down, figure out what is really going wrong, and then we can figure out how to fix it. Without that you're just flailing around blindly and that's a waste of everyone's time and energy. You haven't even really provided any description of your problem other than the implication that you don't think the graphics card is working. Search for "doctor it hurts" to read the full rant on that...
