Hi,

The hard disk seems to be functioning ok but I cannot get it to accept any mode above UDMA2!

'hdparm -i /dev/hdc' says the maximum for that drive is UDMA2.
'hdparm -t /dev/hdc' gives a result of only 15MB/s.

The DVD-ROM drive is also stuck in UDMA2 whereas an identical drive we have here in a Windows PC is reporting UDMA4.

Much google'ing has yielded no solution - has anyone got a better result with this combination?

I have the same setup and the same problem with my SATA drive:

Code:
/dev/hdc:
 Timing cached reads:   2504 MB in  2.00 seconds = 1251.56 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads:   46 MB in  3.11 seconds =  14.78 MB/sec

sgreszcz@myth:~$ sudo hdparm /dev/hdc

/dev/hdc:
 multcount    =  0 (off)
 IO_support   =  1 (32-bit)
 unmaskirq    =  1 (on)
 using_dma    =  1 (on)
 keepsettings =  0 (off)
 readonly     =  0 (off)
 readahead    = 256 (on)
 geometry     = 24321/255/63, sectors = 390721968, start = 0

sgreszcz@myth:~$ sudo hdparm -i /dev/hdc

/dev/hdc:

 Model=SAMSUNG SP2004C, FwRev=VM100-33, SerialNo=S07GJ10Y514120
 Config={ Fixed }
 RawCHS=16383/16/63, TrkSize=34902, SectSize=554, ECCbytes=4
 BuffType=DualPortCache, BuffSize=8192kB, MaxMultSect=16, MultSect=off
 CurCHS=16383/16/63, CurSects=16514064, LBA=yes, LBAsects=268435455
 IORDY=on/off, tPIO={min:120,w/IORDY:120}, tDMA={min:120,rec:120}
 PIO modes:  pio0 pio1 pio2 pio3 pio4
 DMA modes:  mdma0 mdma1 mdma2
 UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 *udma2
 AdvancedPM=no WriteCache=disabled
 Drive conforms to: unknown:

 * signifies the current active mode

I'll let you know if I find anything - there is not much on the net...

Replying to myself, but it looks as people are working on a patch:
