OK, I’m quite new to this, but before posting I have had a good browse through the forum and the wiki and have tried the suggestions I’ve found. There are several posts about getting the Aver 771 tuner card working but nothing I try can get it to work right with Knopp. Any assistance appreciated as I’m clean out of ideas! Here’s a summary of what I’ve done: First confirmed that I’m getting good digital reception on all channels through my antenna. (All channels are being received well on another (non-Knopp) mythtv box I have.) Did clean install of R5A26. When mythtv-setup started I first added dvb-bt8xx to /etc/modules (per instructions elsewhere in forum). Then I selected to clear all capture card & channel settings. In General setup I selected PAL, Australia, Auto time offset. In Capture Card setup I selected ‘DVB card’ (Card name says “Zarlink MT352 DVB-T” which according to other posts here is correct for the AVerTV DVB-T 771). In Video Sources setup I created a new source called FTA-Digital and selected the Australian grabber. In the Xterm window I configured the grabber appropriately for Sydney’s FTA channels. In Input Connections I mapped DVBInput to FTA-Digital and chose a valid starting channel. I ignored the Channel Editor at this stage. Mythfilldatabase ran automatically and successfully grabbed 7 days worth of data. Myth frontend starts. ‘Watch TV’ results in black screen for a few seconds then exits. ‘Program Finder’ is populated with data, but ‘Program Guide’ is empty, and using up/down arrows in Pgm Guide causes segmentation fault. Re-ran mythtv-setup, this time assigned channel numbers to the channels I found in Channel Editor, then re-ran mythfilldatabase. Now my Program Guide is populated with data, but Watch TV still results in black screen for a few seconds then exits. Also, sometimes when I re-run mythtv-setup and go to Capture Cards, instead of seeing “Zarlink MT352 DVB-T” it says “Could not open card #0! Device or resource busy.” Clearing capture card settings and/or rebooting does not necessarily help – this may be significant…? Thanks – at wit’s end right now ![]() |

Shouldn't be necessary on R5A18 or later, but won't cause any harm. Quote: ... I ignored the Channel Editor at this stage. This is a problem. You need to do a scan (or 5) in the Channel Editor. Otherwise, the backend won't know how to tune to anything. If you look at the content of the file /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log, you will see the errors that reports about not finding PIDs (which would have been provided by the scan operation). Quote: ... That is because the backend is running and is using the card. You need to shut it down with: Code: /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend stop
as root. To fix your install, do that command, run mythtv-setup and clear the channels at the start, setup your video source again (3), map your card to it (4), scan for channels (5) by entering the frequencies of all the local channels (e.g. 571500000 for SBS) with a 7MHz bandwidth, then in the channel editor fill in the XMLTVIDs (e.g. free.Sydney.SBS.d1.com.au, free.Sydney.7.d1.com.au). Then you can run mythfilldatabase to get programme data, and then start the backend, and then the frontend, and then watch TV (hopefully). Email me tomorrow if you need a hand. |

Thanks so much Nigel - glad someone replied, and even more glad that your advice worked like a charm! I got the appropriate frequencies to plug in from here www.dba.org.au/index.asp?sectionID=22&r ... ion=Sydney Now I can watch live TV on all FTA digital channels, still a few issues though: 1) The channel scan added ALL available digital channels, even those that I don't want, like 7 Digital-2, 7 Digital-3, HD channels, EPGs etc. Even though I specified that mythfilldatabase should only download the ones I want (ABC, ABC2, SBS, 7, 9, 10 and nothing else) I still have access to ALL channels, both in Live TV and in Program Guide. How do I discard the channels I don't want? (Have done a cursory search for info on this, I believe there is an FAQ about it somewhere but I couldn't locate it!) 2) Even though all the channels appear in Program Guide, there is no actual EPG data there, just 'Unknown' for all channels. As a result (I assume) I cannot record any Live TV. Note that 'Find Program' is populated with data though, so it looks like mythfilldatabase has run OK. 3) No audio out of SPDIF when AC3 passthrough enabled. Maybe I have to install sound drivers?? (But as this is my "next" thing to worry about, I haven't yet searched for answers on this.) |

Are there duplicate channel numbers in mythtv-setup's Channel Editor? I have seen that happen when incorrect XMLTVIDs are gived in the scanned channels, which means mythfilldatabase enters an extra set of channels because there is no match on XMLTVID. No idea about SPDIF. Sorry. Search the forum, or the mythtv-users list. |

I think this may have been the issue - when I unchecked those Visible checkboxes I also went through each 'valid' channel and ensured the correct XMLTVIDs were entered. Then ran mythfilldatabase again and voila...EPG is looking good ![]() Thanks a lot for your help ![]() Now it's on to the next stage of the project...getting that audio going. |
