Hi I got a backend and a frontned.. the frontned is a via c3 system and the backend is a p4 2.6ghz Now there should i place the dvd burner? to record shows onto dvd? will there be any problems burning a dvd whit a front end? or should it be done on the backend? |

Given the fact that you'll most likely want to process the video, I'd place it on the backend. |

Noob alert! I'll be building my first Mythbox as soon as my wife allows me to unwrap my xmas gifts... anyway, why place the burner on the backend? I won't be delving into creating a backend/frontend setup for awhile (if ever) but I'm still curious, are you suggesting the backend for the burner just to keep the load on the frontend down? |

do you guys have dvd players on the frontends? Arnt the /myth/video files accessed via nfs? a burner can be in the front end as long as the frontend can write to the mounted space, right? |

Put the burner in the back end. You don't want to burn data over the network. Although it will probaly work nine times out of ten because your home network probaly only has three or four computers on it. Still locality is important when burning a disc. |

I wasn't thinking of data locality when I responded, but it is important. When the CPUs he has was why I stated the backend. /myth/video should be accessible via NFS if one has it setup that way. |
