Post subject:  Is the SIS 760 Chipset Good For Knoppmyth?

I have found this motherboard with a bundled AThlon XP-2800+ Mobile Chip for $105 I was wondering if it was good for knoppmyth?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813185062

I have found a few people who have used it but not really any thumbs up on tier 1 installation with it.

I want to use it for a master backend / frontend that will stay on all the time so the mobile chip is important for low power consumption.

Thanks!

Hi Will,
I have an ASRock K7S41 mobo that uses the SIS741. I stuck an AMD +2200 (1.5ghz) with 256 mem, 20gig hd, HD3000 and also an AGP FX5200 . It will play / record hd tv, also live tv on the computer monitor smooth using that video card but I have to suffer with the interlace edges on motion. Haven't made the DVI work after the frontend starts up yet.

It has the AC97 audio that I can't make stick on a reboot so have to rerun alsaconf everytime. Once it is up, it is a fixed level (no F10 -F11 control)

The board has been stable with the SIS chips.

The big problem with the board is the componet lay out as there are filter caps and some connectors that get in the way of installing cards that are needed. The extra remote jack on the pvr's lands on top of caps but fortunetly, they didn't break when I bent them out barely enough to get the hd card in. The pins from the audio header block the the other socket from usage. I have been to lazy to get out the desoldering station and remove it.

Maybe that is some insight. If using only analog, a pvr with hardware encoder will work in older slower machines. I have an IBM PC 300GL (350mhz 128meg, 16gig hd) that does the job well. Just careful choice of cards, RAGE 128 TNT2 nvidia video, AS4000 audio, and an isa ethernet card so there is a pci slot left for the tuner.

All depends where you are aiming.

Have a great day!
Mike
