Okay according to tjc we have 20 questions in which to solve this problem.

First question: What version of Knoppmyth are you running?

Post subject:	Haupage PVR-150 MCE
Trying to get the PVR-150 MCE to work. Everything seems to detect properly, and I have a channel listing in the channel editor. However, when I go to Watch TV, it's just a black screen and after a few seconds it goes back to the menu. I found a post on here about this problem and it said to go into the channels editor and click 'scan for channels' However, that option is greyed out =\

DETAILS... We hate playing "Doctor it hurts" and other forms of "20 questions". Without the details we have to resort to "take two URLs and call us in the morning." Well, I'm still fairly new to the Linux scene and doubly so to the MythTV scene. Anywho, after a quick jog through the logs it almost seems as if theres no PCI devices found. I double checked that the card is seated and that the pci slots aren't disabled in bios. The card is warm so it must be doing something. There also seems to be nothing in dmesg with that IVTV line, both by using the command and by visual inspection.

That was sarcasm. Please don't make us drag this out of you factoid by factoid. Tell us what hardware you have, tell us what you see in the log files, read the troubshooting section, and try some of the things discussed there like running lspci and post this diagnostic information. For example, my signature block contains a compressed but detailed hardware spec for my box with make and model numbers.

You have heard about the "Via" chipset problem right? They have nasty DMA issues. OBTW - What about the IVTV stuff from dmesg? Hauppauge known hardware incompatibilities list: http://www.hauppauge.com/html/lockups.htm#MOMLIST

We've gotten the card to work on a different Via chipset just recently with minimal struggle. Oh right, IVTV, forgot. OK, the card _seems_ to be detected and initialized with no problem. Are you located outside the US/Canada where the zap2it listings cover? You really need channel definitions in the database. Also what card type did you select in mythtv-setup? It should be the MPEG-2 encoder (250, 350) type on /dev/video0 with the default input being tuner0. You also need to set up a "video source" (listings) and associate it with tuner0, and only tuner0. Also make sure that the starting channel is defined and exists. As far as log files, next we look at /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log and take a closer look at XFree86.0.log to make sure you got some kind of Xv support.

I'm in the US, and the channels are all being downloaded from DataDirect alright, atleast they all show up in the channel editor. I had selected the V4L, someone else on the boards had said to use that for the 150. I've set it to use Mpeg-2 and set it up as you reccomended. OK This bit is just plain wrong. Quote: Running as a slave backend. Lets do this. From your console, exit the frontend by hitting Escape until you get to the "do you really want to exit?" prompt. Do Alt-X to get an X-terminal window, then in that window enter "su -" to become root, then "/etc/init.d/mythtv-backend stop". Then hit Alt-S which should start mythtv-setup for you. Answer "yes" to both questions to clear all your settings. Then we're going to go through the setup by the numbers 1) General: On screen 1 make sure both IP addresses are either 127.0.0.1 or if you're using a static IP, the IP of your machine. Both should be the same. On screen 3 make sure you've got the appropriate Channel frequency set: (two options for a cable hookup "us-cable" and "us-cable-hrc" try the one you're not using right now, later we can try the other one) and that you don't have the master b.e. override box checked. 2) Capture Cards: You should have one entry for MPEG: /dev/video0 which is set up as previously discussed. 3) Video Sources: You should have one entry for your cable provider. Mine is called "Cable" so we'll use that as an example. Make sure you're using the "default" frequency set here 4) Input Connections: Associate the "Cable" video source with MPEG: /dev/video0 - tuner0 and only that. Make sure your "starting channel" is set to one that you really get on your feed. 5) Channel Editor: Skip this for now. Finally, reboot and test.

Hi Kuroneko, As part of the 20 questions, did you go through all the mythtv-setup & utility/setup to be sure the paths are correct? /myth/tv /cache/cache & cache buffer size 1 gig smaller than df -h cache size? While you are at it, check the /myth/gallery /myth/music also. They are probably ok, but it doesn't cost anything to check. Most of the problems seem to be related to those areas so check them first. Then start fresh with the problems being clear as to what you are seeing as we can't see your machine and the errors. If you have another computer, learn how to ssh into the KnoppMyth box as it is so much easier to work (play) that way. Mike
