Post subject: | Nvidia FX5200 Lite, no go w/ R5A26 |
I have read a few posts regarding the nvidia driver issues. I have tried nvidia-setup to no avail. When my KnoppMyth box reboots, it can not start X. If I alt-2 and log in as mythtv and su then go to /etc/X11 and modify XF86Config-4 and change the driver designatin from "nvidia" to "nv" then exit then startx it seems to start X just fine. Code: # The following line is auto-generated by KNOPPIX mkxf86config
Driver "nv" VendorName "All" BoardName "All" # BusID "PCI:1:0:0" Why must I change this every time it reboots? Also, I tried all the drivers that come with KnoppMyth but with no success. On a completely different OS, but with the same card, I have used the nvidia7676 driver and it works wonderfully. However, 7676 is not listed as being part of KnoppMyth, is that the issue? Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you. |

I'm not sure what nvidia issues you are talking about I'm not aware of them. The reason you have to change that at every reboot is because there is a startup script that checks to see if you have a nvidia card if so it installs the nvidia driver and makes the change from nv to nvidia in your config file. |

When attempting to install nvidia drivers, the below is the result. I did check the path and what it is looking for is not there. I changed the path with the --kernel-source-path comand, but still no go. This is the closest thing I found, as far as a path goes: /usr/include/linux/kernel.h I am just guessing here, but I really do not think the kernel source exists. ![]() Code: ERROR: The kernel header file '/lib/modules/2.6.13.2-chw-3/source/include/linux/kernel.h' does not
exist. The most likely reason for this is that the kernel source path '/lib/modules/2.6.13.2-chw-3/source' is incorrect. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for your kernel and that they are properly configured; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the 'kernel-source' RPM installed. If you know the correct kernel source files are installed, you may specify the kernel source path with the '--kernel-source-path' command line option. ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux driver download page at www.nvidia.com |

Yes. Yes. Yes. A bad burn I had, indeed. I checked the md5sum originally prior to burning, as usual. But this time, something got missed. I did the testcd with the original CD is used and it failed. Crap. I burned a new one, did the testcd , and BLAM. It passed. I figured I had no choice but to reinstall, so I did. Nvidia works outta the box now. Then did the remote and ir blaster thing, they work too. Now i'm moving on to get this thing burn some dvd at some. Thanks for all your help folks!!! |
