I've installed knoppmyth and there is no audio. I am using the onboard 7.1 channel audio codec RealTek ALC880 and nothing happenes. I have gone through alsaconfig and it could not dectect it. Does anyone know what to do. Anything would help.

Did you make sure it was enabled in the BIOS?

Have you searched here in the forums and on the wiki? There are several write ups for getting SPDIF working...

http://alsa.opensrc.org/DigitalOut

is one of the best howtos I have found in regards to digital alsa.

Key things to look at are
/proc/asound/devices
aplay -l
and
aplay -L

mplayer, aplay, and alsaplayer all allow you to specify which device to output too, just need to read some docs, and go through the basics.

Another thing, if you are using Optical SPDIF, verify the cable and Receving side of the SPDIF are working (use a dvd player or something). I had a ton of problems come to find out I had a bad optical cable.

When the Optical didn't work, I plugged in a Coax, and it immedately started working.

I am not using SPFID, I am just using regular computer speaker cables. I can get the linux driver from realtek's site but I don't know what to do with it after that (I'm a noob with linux)
