With all of the remotes out there, I'm curious as to what some people would recommend as far as learning remotes to use as a replacement for an infrared wireless keyboard. Thanks! -David |

Universal Remote Control MX500 http://www.remotecentral.com/remotes.htm#mx500 Lots of hard buttons, very programmable, has learnt everything of mine (except for my Daikin air conditioner, which I think uses two-way IR communication). Not perfect, though. After a few years, the "joystick" thingy has gotten a lot less precise. I am going to try experimenting with a Logitech 520 or 880 next (if I can find one cheap enough). |

I'm partial to the old reliable Radio Shack 15-2116. http://www.remotecentral.com/ureview/63.htm It has an LCD, backlit buttons and a nice ergonomic look and feel. Most importantly it's $29 and JP1 progammable, meaning that I can program just about any IR codes into it from my PC (whether or not the manufacturer supports them). So far I haven't come across a component, and I have some of the most obscure, it didn't work and play well with. An excellent resource for researching remotes is http://www.hifi-remote.com There's an abundance of info in their forums as well as JP1 codesets contributed to the files section. (The RS 15-2116 is a favorite on that forum as well). Good luck. |

I ended up finding this thread via Google: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... ight=ur74a I went with Metalo's recommendation and ordered the X10 UR74A. Do an eBay search for it and you'll find the guy I'm getting it from, he's an X10 reseller selling it for $14.99 shipped. His feedback is near perfect and it's being shipped today. I will report back when I get it. |

Since Bix never followed up on this and I followed up getting the same remote, I would have to say that so far I am very pleased with it. I had to use one of the universal codes to get my TV to turn on and off properly, but was able to program everything else to work exactly how I wanted. My setup is: TV HTIB surround sound KM box with streamzap remote So I just programmed the remote for the TV, then had it learn the volume buttons for the surround sound (b/c it is using digital audio via an optical TSOP cable), and learn the rest of the buttons from the streamzap remote. It has certainly helped the WAF. |
