Post subject:  Do HVR cards work with Linux/Myth?

Hi all,

I convinced my GF that a MythTV unit would be a good thing to have, so I finally get to put one together :)

Now, here's the thing: We don't get very good terrestrial digital reception (Freeview) so I can't rely on the digital channels working. So I want to have analogue available as well.

So my ideal card would be one that can receive digital, but also has a built-in MPEG-encoder for analogue reception so I don't need an uber-CPU with all the noise that entails. And the HVR range seems to fit the bill perfectly.

Trouble is, I can't find anything to tell me if they'll actually work. The Haupauge website says "The Linux driver for the WinTV card is now part of the Linux kernel" - does this mean all their WinTV cards work under Linux? Or am I being overly optimistic?

Any advice on whether these cards will work, or on what other cards might do the job, would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

if it's a hardware encoding hauppage card your best bet would be to ask over on the ivtv mailing list, as that's the driver that would support it. sorry I don't have a link handy.

actually after looking closer at it those look like dvb cards, so may be handled by one of the dvb drivers, but I'm not aware of any dvb drivers that support hardware encoders, since by design digital broadcasts are already encoded. Then again I don't follow dvb much as we don't use it in the US.

looks like someone is currently working on the HVR-1300 and support for the HVR-1100 just went in dvb according to http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2005-December/006941.html that post is from the 15 Dec.
I'd keep an eye on the linux-dvb mailing list. The downside to using brand spanking new drivers is you get to find the brand spanking new bugs :)

Can someone point me direction to go with HVR-1100?

Card has two TV-tuners, Analog and DVB-T. At this moment I rather use analog one. Knoppmyth finds only one channel "Composite1". I suppose that means Video in connection in TV-card.

I use KnoppMyth Release 5 B7 with "standard" installation.
