Post subject:  SOLVED - mythfrontend to access NFS instead of streaming

It is driving me crazy because my myth setup (MBE w/ pvr-350 connected to wrt54g 802.11g router with xbox, linux and os x frontends connected wirelessly) except it has one problem, randomly either after 5 minutes of watching livetv or prerecorded shows the frontend hangs - sometimes for a few seconds sometimes locks up and a hard reset is required. Sometimes it even maeks my router go crazy and kicks everyone off the network in the house.

I have searched for an answer and found this from http://mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv-dev/ ... 38050.html:

"I have had similar issues. Seems that using the myth protocol more
than double the necessary data is being sent over the network. So
while everything is fine in vlc, using the myth protocol, 802.11 g
runs out of bandwidth and the buffer runs out. This causes the
frontend to believe it has reached the end of the recording and it
aborts. I have not had time to track down why exactly myth is
sending so much data but it has been doing so for a while. Check for
my previous thread regarding this topic. It was recommended that I
use nfs instead."

It says to use NFS instead of stream, I can play NFS mounted files fine in VLC, how can I have the frontend access NFS mounted files instead of using myth stream? I see no settings do so in the frontend.

PS I have also tried turning on fragmentation and RTS in my router wondering if packet collisions were causing this, but same problem.

I seem to be having the opposite problem. I can watch Live TV and recorded TV perfectly fine on my XBox. But when I try to watch video copied off of the Tivo to the Myth backend with NFS exports, the connection is way the heck too slow. Copying directly to the XBox hard drive makes such video play okay. So I was under the impression that something was more efficient about streaming than NFS.

Post subject:  PROBLEM SOLVED!

I am sooo happy right now, my mysterious hanging problem has been solved! YAY I love mythtv

Heres what it was, I had loaded dd-wrt firmware onto my wrt54g router about 6 months ago, I just loaded the newest dd-wrt firmware onto it and now the problem is fixed!

It must have been some bug in the old firmware! Now I can watch streaming content perfectly, no hangs no skips no stutters.

An old celern 600 a $40 wifi router and an xbox, old laptop and mac make a great mythtv frontend backend setup!

Thanks to everyone who tried to help me with this!
