My setup
1ghz Pentium
256 ram
and pvr-350

Till recently(yesterday) I was using the pvr-150. I had and still have setup hooked to my tv through a vga cable and rca audio adapter comiing from motherboard.

All my tuning a/v and video were working well with the pvr-150.
Last night I received a pvr-350. This morning I shut down machine and swapped cards. Everything loaded fine. I did the mythtv-setup again, erased my previous card and then setup it up from scratch. I also redid tuner selection. Not really sure if needed but I wanted to make sure things got setup like they needed to be instead of just thinking my setting would carry over.

SO I go to watch tv, but no sound. I check aumix and volumes are all messed up. SO I fix check again no sound, I do get video. I checked also with mplayer /dev/video0 to see if it was a myth thing but still no sound.
I also ran ivtvctl -H to reload firmware maybe to knock something loose if need be, but still no dice. I messed around with ivtvctl and ivtv-tune for a little bit no luck.

I then tried searching the forums but it seems all incidents with 350's and no sound where with using the tv out on the 350. Not saying there is not any there, but I did not find one. I did not read the wiki but I am going there now. Really doubt the answer is there for this problem, but maybe I will be pleasently suprised. Thought I post the questing someone may help.

Any way when I ran dmesg I got the following:

http://www.geocities.com/gccsanimatt/pvr-350.txt

I included the whole file there as I saw bttv loaded after the ivtv section and thought that was strange.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am going to try the card in the windows machine right now just to see if I can verify the sound is working on the card.

Does the sound work at all? Can mplayer play a .mp3 file and produce sound? Does the sound on shows recorded for before the switch work? Are you using the pvr-350's decoder or is all playback through mplayer?

PLaying back of multimedia files does produce sound. It is just streams captured with the pvr-350 that are having a problem. I am not using the 350 decoder, only the encoder.
Only cable connected to the back of the card is the coaxcable.

Still going to try and run in windows to see If I can get sound. I forgot I did not have a windows machine around anymore so have to backup a hard drive before I can install windows to check it out.

Well I tried windows and still no luck. NO sound at all from the pvr card, no Fm or cable audio. I have yet to fully troubleshoot in windows, but I was hoping to have it just working.

Well I tried again in linux did some messing around with ivtv tools. With ivtv-radio I did manage to tune an fm station and get sound. I am not sure why it worked now, but it did. AS for video I still have no audio, but I think I am going to mess around with different ivtv versions and see if that will not help.

If anyone has any ideas let me know

I'm having the same issue. Have you had any luck finding a fix?

Thanks!

Sorry coop I have not looked to much more into it. I orignally have a pvr-150 l.p. I then was thinking of the pvr-350. Well since it was giving me troubles (pvr-350) I kind of just put it on the side because I atleast had one card working correctly. Well I then stumbled across a fairly priced used pvr-500. ($75 plus shippping) for a bare pvr-500. I could not pass it up so now I set that up and really have had no real incentive to getting it working. I have plenty of tuners functioning but only do not have it (pvr setup) hooked to a normal tv. It is currently hooked to a 42 vga monitor. Which is fairly good, but the add picture quality that the tv has, shows more imperfections that would have been hidden by a generic tube tv.

Just 2 days ago I setup a computer wuth win98 to see if I could varify the card was working and after somme tinkering I got it to work. Not very nicely but I got both sound and video.

SO I know for sure that the pvr-350 has good hardware, nothing seems broken. In the next few days I am going to try and fully setup the pvr-350. I am thinking it is most like an ivtv thing. So I am going to try different firmware to see if I can get it working.

Anyway sorry I could not be more helpful, but I will post an update in a few days if I get anywhere with the issue.

There is supposed to be a fix in 0.4.2 or the associated firmware for something like this. I could find it again on a quick search but it was sknown problem where the older firmware failed to correctly detect something related to the sound and improperly muted it. Note that last I checked Cecil is still using the older encoder firmware, so see http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Firmware for how to get the latest for 0.4.2.

Have any of you discovered a solution to this problem yet?

I'm experiencing somehting very similar on my PVR-350. I recently upgraded my Knoppmyth version and I can hear sounds from the shows I recorded before the upgrade, but not the shows I recorded after the upgrade. It's as if the tuner card is simply not capturing the sound during recording, but I believe that the hardware/cable hookup is correct. I can hear sound while playing music, videos, or shows recorded before the upgrade. I am using ivtv version 0.43.

I did run the ivtvctl -a command and it shows that the volume=0 and mute=0. Does the volume=0 have anything to do with this? I attempted to change it (using ivtvctl -y volume=32768) and it doesn't take...the volume still shows 0.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Edit the file /etc/modules/ivtv and remove the simple=1 option.

Also move tda9887.ko out of the v4l modules directory and make sure that you have one
in your ivtv modules directory from your ivtv build.
