Hi, ive successfully installed knoppmyth R5A9 on a brand new machine with an avermedia hybrid dvb card.

unfortunately i havent been able to successfully view any tv in knoppmyth as yet..

machine specs:

celeron 3.06ghz
512mb ddr400
asus p4p800s
lg dvd burner
sony cd burner
seagate 40gb 7200rpm pata (OS drive)
seagate 120gb sata2 (storage drive)

the output from 'dmesg' is rather long and im not 100% on what parts would be of interest to anyone who could help, so instead of pasting in here (and annoying the crap out of everyone im sure) ive got the dmesg output here

thankyou to anyone who can help :)

<edit> typo

Knoppmyth r5a9 is nearly a year old!! You might have better luck with the latest version r5a30

ok so ive installed R5A30, tried to configure it as best i could, used standard V4L but when i go to watch tv all i get is a blank black screen.

again, ive copied the dmesg output to a file here

i get this from my lspci -v

Code:
0000:02:0a.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7134 (rev 01)
Subsystem: Avermedia Technologies Inc: Unknown device 2c00
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 19
        Memory at fbfff800 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1K]
Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 1

My guess would be that this line is your problem.

saa7134[0]: subsystem: 1461:2c00, board: UNKNOWN/GENERIC [card=0,autodetected]

I have no idea what card number it should be google would be the place to look for that.

If its a DVB card, then you should select DVB not V4L!

I had to compile a much newer kernel from source than what comes with knoppmyth (even R5A22...don't know about what kernel version 30 comes with...) to make my AverHD MCE A180 be detected properly by the kernel. If you apply all patches to Kernel ver. 2.6.14, it will work, but I just grabbed the 2.6.15 rc7 image and used that as all patches were already applied.

The MCE A180 uses the same backend chip (SAA7134) as whatever card you are using, and uses an NXT2002 front end chip, which appears to be a kernel module under DVB, but I can't select it. I will need to do more investigation as once the NXT chip is picked up, I should be able to finally use the DVB module for this card.

ok so ive changed the card type to dvb, but neither card 0,1,2 or 3 work.
i get a key colour error.

im running Linux version 2.6.13.2-chw-3 from R5A30.

is there something i should update for it to pickup the card?

Well, from hotspoon's post, it sounds like you want kernel version at least 2.6.15 rc7, so you will have to download that (or a later version if there is one) and build and install that. If you are notr familiare with building kernels, there are some good examples of how to do it on the forum.

Is your card supported in a newer kernel (2.6.15-rc7)?
