Post subject:  xine playback in PVR350 framebuffer

I would like to install a DVD player in my Mythbox and possibly transcode my 350's output for better space handling, but the framebuffer output is quite slow. I'm presently running on rather old hardware I had laying around and I know the framebuffer for the 350 is not the best place to display video. I get I'd guess around 10fps playing transcoded MPEG4 right now. So to my question:

If I upgrade my mb/cpu will the PVR350's framebuffer get (useably) faster or am I better off using a different card for video playback?

Are you use a verstion of the ivtv driver that has XV support? Doing so helps tremendously.

Since you didn't say what version of ivtv you're using, what your xine configuration is, or what your current hardware is, we have absolutely no way to even begin to take a guess at the answer to your question.

If you're running a 3GHz P4 with 1GB of RAM, then no, upgrading your mb/cpu won't help. In that case using an ivtv driver with xv support will make more difference than a new motherboard and cpu.

I'm at work presently so I don't have access to my myth box, but I'll try to go into some more detail..

I'm running a version of ivtv from about 2 months ago

The mb/cpu is crap I had laying around. Somewhere around 600Mhz Athalon with ~256M of ram

Whatever version of Knopp that was current around March of 05 coupled with the version of xine that came with it.

I guess a good question would be how I can check if my version of ivtv supports XV and if my version of X would play nice with it? I know this is about as specific as saying "my computer's broken what should I do?" but hopefully it will narrow things down a bit.
