Post subject: | WinTV PVR/PCI firmware problem |
I've got a Myth box that I just re-installed from scratch. It was working with an R4 release, and I now switched to R5A30. The old setup only had a bttv card and the new setup is including a PVR-250. In the new setup, I can only get the new card to work. The problem I think with the bttv card (A Hauppauge WinTV PVR/PCI) is the firmware. It requires the loading of the altera firmware from the CD (which I have). In the past version of KnoppMyth, the kernel module had a hardcoded path to the firmware that it reported in dmesg, so it was easy to put it in the right place. In fact, I had a thread about it quite some time ago: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1532 Now, the error is different, because of changes in the bttv driver I think. It's hardcoded now to get the firmware through the hotplug interface. Quote: bttv0: Bt878 (rev 17) at 0000:00:08.0, irq: 18, latency: 32, mmio: 0xee001000 bttv0: detected: Hauppauge WinTV/PVR [card=80], PCI subsystem ID is 0070:4500 bttv0: using: Hauppauge WinTV PVR [card=80,autodetected] bttv0: gpio: en=00000000, out=00000000 in=00dfffff [init] bttv0: no altera firmware [via hotplug] The problem I think is that hotplug isn't started until after KnoppMyth loads the bttv driver. After booting, if I remove the bttv modules (and the ones that depend on it) and then re-insert them, the firmware is loaded correctly. Quote: bttv0: altera firmware upload ok
I'm wondering if anyone else has gotten around this with anything better than a hack. I was considering trying to re-hardcode the bttv driver to load the firmware directly from disk, but I'm not a great coder and would rather not. Even after re-inserting the modules, I still don't get to watch things on the bttv card. Instead of audio-related errors or lockups, I get 'Can't read vbi data' a ton in the backend log. Anyone with any insight into this problem? -N |
