Hi

I am trying to get my remote to work. For this i have bought a ir device, for my serial port.

How do i see if, in first place the device works?

I know i should use minicom? but how ?

oh and any tips regarding remote setup is welcome :)
BTW its a Harmono Logitech 525 i am trying to get to work :)

If you are talking about a homebrew IR receiver, I dont think they use tha data lines on the serial port so cat /dev/ttySx will not work.

You can run mode2 or xmode2 to get lirc to display code timing of codes received.

it is a home made one!
so it wont work :(

just type mode2 and point your remote at the receiver and press buttons.
You should see pulse length details written to the terminal.
Not sure if lircd needs to be running, but the lirc_serial module will need to be loaded. It will default to being setup for one of the com ports (probably COM1). You can change the serial port it uses by specifying module options.

setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart none
modprobe lirc_serial.

You really need to go and read one of the IR Blaster tutorial/howtos. The configuration for an IR blaster is identical to a home brew receiver (when configured, you can have a receiver and a blaster on the same serial port).

tnx i got it to show trash on the screen now. So i guess i can just use any of the guides on the wiki now?

alright i am following the misc guide here:

it tells me to add something to to a file in:

change lirc_i2c to lirc_serial on both lines


How ever this file dont extixt in a26
any ideas or link to better guides to use?
