Hello! I have two seperate problems:

First (and more important) is my Tuner card not working. I have an ATI Wonder Pro tuner card and It seems to not detect it or configure it. The installation goes smothly (except for possibly a message about No Multimedia Card found, but it goes by too quickly). In the MythTV setup/config I keep all the settings (as per the instructions) but when I go through the steps (1 through 4), no Capture card is setup already, and I don't know which one to add. When I get to 'Input Connections' there is nothing there.

The second (and less urgent) problem I noticed before I installed the Tuner card. When I attempt to play a DVD, MythTV locks up, and the console screens (tty1 through tty6) are flooded with I/O errors for the DVD drive. Ripping a Audio CD works fine.

Lastly, my remote (came with the ATI Wonder Pro) doesn't appear to be working... but I think that was covered in another post, I just have to find it (link it if you know where it is, please).

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hardware specs:
Mobo: Biostar K8M800-M7A
CPU: AMD Sempron 64 3000+
CD/DVD: NEC ND-3550A OEM
Tuner: ATI Wonder Pro Remote Control Edition

Ok... So, I gave up on the TV Wonder working (at least for now) and bought a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150MCE. Hopefully that will work.

My second problem remains though! I took my DVD drive out and installed it into another computer and it worked fine. No extra drivers needed, it just worked. So this leads me to believe that there is a bug in KnoppMyth related to this drive. I dunno though... still testing. If anyone has any ideas, please post!!

What type of DVD are you trying to play? What is the error msg?

I tried playing Spider Man 2, Kill Bill: Volume 1 and 2, and also a "Blue Man Group" performance DVD (all professionally made). The producers are Sony, Miramax, and Lava. With these, it didn't do anything. No error message or lock up or anything. It reacted almost like it does when you select 'Play DVD' when no disk is in the drive. The DVD rip/transcode reports "No Jobs. Checking and/or Waiting for DVD." The error message I used to get that flooded the consoles (hard to read, two or three lines repeating quickly in a blur) was some kind of I/O error related to hdb (the DVD drive) and the sectors. I don't know how I could read it easier because the only way I can make it stop is to reboot the system (can't find the PID because all output is scrolled away almost immediately by more error messages).

There is a certain thing you need to play "store bought" DVDs. If you don't have that thing, they won't play. However, I believe a message is displayed if you are trying to play a DVD without that thing... so your problem may be related to something else.

I'm not trying to be elusive per se, but my understanding is that the "thing" I'm referring to may have legal implications that are best left off these forums. I'm just tredding lightly. Maybe one of the veterans of these forums might know better what can and cannot be said.

Anyway, are the error msgs being logged anywhere? (in one of the /var/log/... files perhaps?)

Commercial DVDs are encrypted. U.S. law (the infamous DMCA) makes software to decode them an illegal "circumvention device" and providing it criminal, even if all you want is to play your bought and paid for DVDs on your computer. As a result KnoppMyth doesn't provide support for decrypting them, and since even telling you how to do it is considered criminal, (I think the legalese is something like "aiding an abetting") it's not to be discussed on the forums.

Never let it be said that we don't have the best legislators that money can buy. The big media companies are certainly getting their moneys worth. It's just a shame that consumers rights, like the long established principle of fair use, were in the way of them making all the money they wanted to.

So there is no hope for me playing commercial DVDs on my KnoppMyth box?! That really sucks... That means that I have no reason to buy commercial DVDs any more! Way to go US Gov!!
