Well I installed Knoppmyth on an older machine I had lying around and got the install working remote pretty much everything but I'm running into a snag I can't seem to get out of or find someone else with a solution.

I'm running an older BT848 card which I've found in the list as card=9 and the tuner listed on the sticker on the card is a type=6 after learning this I figured I had it all figured out. So on boot without specifying the card I got one channel and an occasional lockup so I looked around on the net where to pass the "options" through. I found most people recommended editing /etc/modules.conf but after trying that several times I didn't get any results(putting "options bttv card=9 tuner=6" the line after bttv's alias). So again I went searching and someone recommended adding it right into /etc/modules so I went to the "bttv" line and changed it to read "bttv card=9 tuner=6" which then gave me a message in dmesg that said the appropriate tuner name and card name for the first time. I then booted into the mythfrontend only to find out I still had the same problem.

So here's my question, is there some other place I should specify the tuner/card type or any other configuration files for bttv or any other tuner related files I should know about, I'm nearly at the end of my rope and the wife is getting rather upset about me spending days in the basement with trial and error to get this straightened out. I apprecaite any help anyone could provide.

Luke

Oh and other things I've tried, I ran KNOPPIX and rmmod'd the bttv and passed "modprobe bttv card=9 tuner=6" and then started xawtv and it worked like a champ so I'm fairly sure the tuner is working peachy as far as hardware is concerned though I'm just stumped on whats running differently on myth than knoppix. Thanks for taking a look hope someone can shed some light on this problem.

setting it in /etc/modules should have worked, however the correct place to set it would be in /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv? to find out what the ? should be look in /etc/modprobe.d/KnoppMyth to see what file is included.

Did some more looking and noticed you posted a reply, thanks but it's still not working;)

The file listed in /etc/modprobe.d/KnoppMyth is "bttv" though at the moment I've added the line "options card=9 tuner=6" into that file with no change in dmesg on startup, it still loads as UNKNOWN CARD TYPE 0 And a tuner of -1 which I understand is almost like nothing.

I removed my edit from modules just to try some other options though it's still not seeming to make a difference. I should note I got the same behavior in knoppix by passing a "modprobe bttv card=9" without tuner specified so I'm nearly certain that the tuner is for some reason not picking up despite it saying so in dmesg. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Another peice of info, if I rmmod bttv and all dependancies then reload it with "modprobe bttv card=9 tuner=6" Then go into the mythfrontend I seem to get a video response simular to when it's set to PAL in knoppix. Not sure if thats of any help but figured I would pass it on.

I realize it's the bttv file, but the line still needs to be
"options bttv card=? tuner=?"

but like I said that will most likely just get you back to where you were with it in /etc/modules only the right way.

Your absolutly correct:) Though thats what I had typed in the config file I checked this morning so it must have been a type when I posted it here.

I tried again this morning just to make sure it wasn't just me being tired and trying to get it hooked up. I added "options bttv card=9 tuner=6" into the bttv0 file that was listed in the location you said above and on boot(after doing an update-modules also) I still get a Generic undetected card and no options. I really appreciate the suggestions though and any other idea's would be appreciated.

EDIT: Still haven't figured out why that change doesn't work for me. I'm wondering if perhaps /etc/modules isn't supposed to load the bttv module rather some other config nearer to the end of startup.

In breaking news I've gotten xawtv to work though it's a little convoluted at the moment. Basically I load the system kill all modules needed to drop bttv, then reload bttv with the correct options(on that note anyone know what pll is? Since I seemingly need it on 0 for less problems). then I can run scantv and get channels and everything for xawtv works. So this lead me to believe this problem has less to do with the tuner and more to do with mythtv and the frequencies that it populates from zap2it so I took a look in mythtv-setup and noticed instead of frequencies I saw channel #'s on the second page, by replacing them with the channel frequencies that were listed from "scantv" I was able to tune to some of the correct channels and it seemed to be working though now it appears I've got other issues(had a lockup a little after that). Either way I'll get that figured out, any other insight would be apprecaited, has anyone else had to manually specify freqs for the channels? Thanks.

Well I guess I'm just an idiot or not getting enough sleep. I've been working on this project off and on for about 6 months(admittidly more off than on:)) and somehow after running the install countless times I forgot that you needed to bind the Input which I'm still amazed that I forgot though sometime today I managed to figure that out and it's been smooth sailing since. I do very much appreciate the suggestions and help though.

Thanks again.
