G'day all, I have taken the plunge and am moving off my via MB to an nforce one. Not there yet, I am trying to get onboard spdif output working. But, my question is... My current via MB has a pvr350 and pvr150 in it. I notice that if I am recording two channels and watching a DVD that the spdif sound skips. I attribute this to two much data on the PCI bus (but I am open to suggestions) If the problem persists I was thinking of moving the pvr150 off the new nforce MB and onto the old via MB that will be redeployed as something else, probably Asterisk. The question: Is the via chipset issue with backend/frontend/other? I.E. is my plan above a sound one or not? The reason I ask, is that the only time I seem to have issues is when I watch shows, it never fails when just recording. Thoughts? Ta, Stinga... |

The issue is with DMA. Disk controllers, the PVR cards, and any other card with the capability can use this to make data transfers without involving the CPU. This is coordinated by the chipset on the motherboard, and is the type of thing where any glitches can wreak havoc. Due to the volume ofd data invovled in video recording/playback DMA is essential to keep things moving, so you can't just turn it off. |

G'day all, So the answer here is wait and see ![]() I'll get everything moved to the nforce MB and see if I still have an issue. Thanks Stinga |
