Post subject: | Networking Question |
Hey all I have everything up and running in my knoppmyth box; but, now I am trying to hurdle my most troublesome problem. Networking. Has anyone tried to network via Powerline while running mythtv? Running an ethernet line would be almost impossible in my situation and a wireless adapter would come up with a pretty weak signal strength. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

I think they have powerline bridges, that would probably be your best bet since then you wouldn't need any special drivers (just your standard ethernet card) which most likely don't exist for linux. |

If you're only running one box, and want to get the program updates from the web then you don't need much bandwidth and the current range of home poweline kit will work fine, such as these: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=46494 Another option would be HPNA, which will work if you have a phone socket near your Myth box, and will give you an 11Mb network connection. Xsecrets...thanks for the reply. have you ever used powerline? i am asking because I wouldnt think there would be any drivers either; but, from all the research I have done, I found there are drivers to get it working. i am making my mythbox a front/backend all in one so im not concerned with transfer speed. im just tryin to keep the guide and weather up-to-date. thanks again |

no I've never used it. I know if you use one of the usb adapters then there will be drivers, but if there is a bridge that delivers ethernet there would not, and I could have sworn I saw some powerline bridge adapters. |
