I have some logs in my pub folder. Please let me know if anything is missing.

Thanks in advance for the attention. I love this community. (My wife is getting jealous.)

I have a couple of these cards in my MBE. I noticed your init IVTV section is not spitting out stuff for 500 #2.

Try issuing an lspci and make sure the system is picking up the second card. You should see two lines of Hauppauge in the listing. Unfortunately my MBE is down or I'd spit it out here.

I see both tuners on your PVR-500 being recognized as a pair of PVR-150s in that log files but I don't see the PVR-350. You've got the Phillips tuner so you shouldn't need to upgrade to ivtv 0.4.2 for the dubious Samsung support. The i2c errors are definitely your big problem, 0.4.2 is also supposed to have fixes for the certain i2c issues but there's no guarentee it'd help... Frankly I'd use Google to search for the text of one of the i2c error messages: "ivtv1 warning: i2c client addr: 0x44 not found for command"

I added the lspci to the log.

I don't have a PVR-350, that was someone else giving me example output.

I have searched for that error, and I've seen a few hits, but they were all using old vers of knopp. I'm afraid to apply their fix, because it usually resulted in using the latest SVN IVTV driver and such. My machine is closer to being complete than it ever has. I don't want to risk hosing it. Where's the balance?

Upgrading to 0.4.2 was fairly painless and the drivers have been working beautifully for me. The only thing that gave me any trouble were some errors about loading the firmware and I managed to sort those out. The directions I wrote up afterwards are the 2nd part of the CompileIvtv page on the wiki. On the other hand I'm running something like R5A22++ rather than R5A30.

I followed these http://www.ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Firmware and only had one concern v4l-cx2341x-init-mpeg.bin (from step 3) is no where on my HD. I did find ivtv_init_mpeg.bin in the ivtv-0.4.0 tarball. But the wiki page makes it sound like only the PVR-350 (which, again, I don't have) needs that.

So, where do I go from here? Do I try installing a new driver? Is there a greater guru whose attention I should call. I don't want to bother Hans. And I get the feeling that no post goes unseen by cecil. He'd chime in on his own if he cared to.

Please advise.

I'd say make a backup and go for the upgrade. It should take less than an hour if you've ever done anything like this before. I think it took me under two hours to not only do it, but also to toubleshoot it, and write up the corrected directions, and I am definitely not the worlds fastest typist. ;-)

For the last time, ther eisn't a damn thing wrong with R5A22. R5A22 aren't stuck (period). These users must simply wait for the next release that has MythTV 0.19.

I looked at the logs you pointed to in your ivtv-users messages, and the
cx25840 chip of the second unit is not found. Other chips are found, so
nothing is wrong with the i2c bus. Based on that I conclude that your
cx25840 is fried.

But the final check is always Windows, for the simple reason that
Hauppauge has all the docs and all the info, whereas we don't.

On the other hand, based on these logs I'd give it a 99% chance of being
broken.

So I call Hauppauge! and they were totally cool with me not having Windows to test on. I told them I had been advised by the MythTV/IVTV community that my card had one bad tuner. They said they trust that the community is right and I should send it back to Hauppauge! (to utilize the 2 year warranty. Did you know these have a 2 year?) instead of sending it back to NewEgg. They told me that these tuners don't ship well, and they see a lot of problems from tuners that were shipped to extra stops.

So, Hauppauge is taking notice of us, and if you can get your tuner from a store front, you are better off.[/quote]

Cesman, i appologize. I love R5A22. In my searching through posts on KnoppMyth, i ran R5A22 and pvr-500. I came across a few posts about problems. That's all. I know we're just waiting for the next release to upgrade. I just meant i have to stick with R5A22 even if i seem to have problems getting both tuners to work on the pvr-500. Whenever i had problems in the past, i usually just upgraded to the newest KnoppMyth and my problems usually went away. I'm just thankful for the community and directions on getting the newest ivtv and such. Again, didn't mean anything by what i said.

I had a problem with my first pvr-250. I called em up, and returned it and got a new one, and i think it was either close to 2 years or even after. They sent me a brand new one. I'm thinking the one I bought off ebay is bad, but haven't figured out how to determine which one is bad. They had really fast turn around though, at least for me.
