Post subject:  Remote works sometimes

This is a new remote from a PVR-150 non mce. A415-HPG silver with 4 colored buttons at the bottom.
I'm running R5A30.2 on a PII 400.

The symptoms are that the remote works one out of 20 button presses or so. It is very inconsistent.

The remote behaves the same when running irw.

When runing irrecord, I get 1 to 5 dots over a few minutes then I get a message saying gap not found, can not continue.

I've checked that the cable is plugged into the PVR-150 and replaced the batteries in the remote. Am I missing anything?

Should I be able to get any of my other remotes around the house to work with irw or irrecord?

Did you do anything evil to the cable? Pinch it? Seriously kink it? ??? Did you bump the plug hard enough to flex it and break one of the sockets connection to the motherboard? Is the "eye" on the sensor head clean and do you have a clear line of sight to it? Does the remotes emitter look OK, and have you tried fresh batteries?

The cable looks fine, I did not pinch it. The connector is not bent. The design is poor on the connection, in that the housing on the cable connector comes with one edge shaved off to clear the metal between the PCI cards. The cable is plugged into the card with the shaved off side in such a way that it clears the metal. So that connection appears to be ok. Twisting, pushing, pulling this cable does not seem to have an affect on whether irw reports a button press.

I may pull the card and check the solder joints on the connecter.

The emmiter and receiver are clean and not scratched. There is a clear line of site. I have tried it up close and far away with the same results. I have changed and tested the batteries. I have pointed the remote at my tivo, and the tivo is seeing the signal.

I am infering from your response that I am on the right track. Am I correct in using irw and irrecord to troubleshoot this? Is there something else I should be doing?

These are all new parts. I may have to buy another one for trouble shooting purposes. I will eventually need 2 tuners anyway. :)

Sounds like you're on the right track, and I'm all out of ideas for the moment. ivtv 0.4.2 was supposed to fix a lot of "flakey remote" problems with the PVR-150. My understanding is that the root of the problem was Hauppauge's slightly cheesey i2c implementation on that card. KnoppMyth R5A30.2 should have the right versions of the ivtv driver...
