Alright I figure out have to copy the lircd.conf.hauppuage file. This is how I tried to copy it: cp lircd.conf.hauppuage /etc/lircd.conf then it says "lircd.conf.hauppuage is not a file or directory" I followed the guide. I saved the lircd.conf.hauppuage file in the desktop directory, do I have to switch to the desktop directory first? If so how do I do that? What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

try a locate to find files:

updatedb (updates the locate database)
locate lircd.conf will tell you where the files are

edit: just checked it

it should be
/usr/local/share/knoppmyth/remotes/hauppauge/etc/lircd.conf

so either use the full path, or cd to that dir first
ps: you can use your tab key to autocoplete the commandline (just try it, tab or tabtab)

cp /usr/local/share/knoppmyth/remotes/hauppauge/etc/lircd.conf /etc/lirc/lircd.conf

look for putty and winscp to make your life easier

Thanks for your help, I got it copied, however what do I put when it says overwrite /etc/lirc/lircd.conf? I put a y for yes. Because when I go into the /etc/lirc/lircd.conf file there isnt any code there now. Thanks again.
