Post subject: | Remote working after initial setup, then stops after tweakin |
Hi all and, first of all, thanks for maintaining such a useful site. I am at my wit’s end as I have spent more time troubleshooting the remote than all of the other problems combined. Here is my problem. I am using a homemade IR receiver based on http://www.lirc.org/receivers.html. I set up lirc during the initial setup of Knoppmyth (same as lirc-reconfig.sh) using the Huappage option (16) with remote option Radio Shack (e). Then I follow the lirc-Howto at http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=LIRCHowTo, and start at the line Quote: vi /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh I used an old One For All URC-5060 http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofaold/index.html) universal remote set to VCR code 081. I get some functionality, but this remote does not have all of the buttons that the Radio Shack remote does.
Next I purchased a URC-6131 and used the setup found at http://www.vulturesnest.net/mythtvremote.html I rebooted and there was no response to the remote. Unfortunately, I did not try the new remote before I changed the setup. So I thought maybe I need to use irrecord to match the code to my setup. I strictly followed the naming convention set up by Joe "The Vulture" as root. Then I overwrote /etc/lircd.conf with the newly created conf file. Still nothing. So I ran lirc-reconfig.sh to try to change the setup back to the original and reboot. Still nothing! I did not see any error messages in dmsg regarding lirc. I was unable to find a log file for lirc. My hardware setup is as follows: AMD 2100+ ASUS A7V333 motherboard with onboard CMI-8738-MC6 audio nVidia Geforce3 64 MB video STB PCITV bt848 tv card There must be something simple I am missing. I am relativley new to Linux and very new to Knoppmyth. Please help! |

I was troubleshooting and when I used irw, the remote began working! I remember seeing a post regarding intermittent problems. For now I am keeping my fingers crossed! |

Post subject: | Update |
Just an update, in case anyone else has a similar problem. To solve this issue I used lirc-reconfig.sh to overwrite the config files, then I opened them again with pico, and inserted the config file I wanted to use, edited out the unwanted lines, and saved. I had to do this for both lircrc and lircd.conf. I assume it must have had something to do with the DOS encoding of the file I downloaded from the Internet. |
