Post subject:  getting a new NIC to work R5A16

Just installed a Dlink DGE-530T gigalan card in my frontend machine (running R5A30.2) and it was detected automatically and works great wo/ me loading any drivers.

I am running R5A16 on my backend server and haven't found any luck getting the same card to be identified and used. Before I was using the onbaord 10/100 NIC, I have disabled it in the BIOS and plugged in the new NIC into a free PCI slot.

I believe it uses the sk98lin driver... and my guess is that this mod isn't installed on my R5A16 box. If I do an auto upgrade to R5A30.2 will it get detected and built in? I have never messed with kernel mods before.

Any help is appreciated :)

Hardware on backend:

Athlon XP 1900 (1.6 GHz 133x12.0)
ASUS A7N8X-VM
512 meg PC2100 (DDR266)
PVR-250

Got it working!

The solution was in this thread for those who are interested. Xsecrets gave me the answer

I don't see what the big problem is if the module is there and works just add the modulename to /etc/modules from then on it will get loaded on boot then just run netcardconfig to setup the networking

Thanks man, works like a charm!
