I'm seriously at a loss. It looks like the card installs properly, I don't have any errors, but the status of the tuner associated with the card is:
"currently not connected" in mythtweb and "not available" when I look at tuner status via a frontend. Here is my ivtv info from the syslog:

Okay, it seems the problem is not with the tv card. I set this machine up as a master backend instead of a slave backend and the card works fine. So what could I be doing that is preventing my master backend from seeing the tv card on the slave backend? At least to the point where it sees the card, but says it is not connected? Do I need to give explicit permissions to /dev/video0?

Okay, here was my problem:
masterbackend:r5a16
slavebackend:r5a30.2

When I setup the slave backend with r5a16 the card was recognized. Now I just need to get around to doing a full upgrade to both machines, but for now it all works.

DAMN!!!
I had three tuners listed, two of them apparently working. I ran mythtv-setup to clear the cards so that only two tuners were listed. Now I am right back where I started. I have two tuners, but again the pvr-150 in the slave backend is listed as not connected or not available. This is so frustrating.

Okay, here's where I'm at:
I have installed R5A30.2 on both the master and slave backends, and it still is not working. However, I think I my have found out what the problem is:
MythtvBackend isn't running on the slave backend.

Here is the error log:
Code:
2006-02-13 15:56:05.595 New DB connection, total: 1
2006-02-13 15:56:05.616 Unable to connect to database!
2006-02-13 15:56:05.621 Driver error was [1/2002]:
QMYSQL3: Unable to connect
Database error was:
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

2006-02-13 15:56:05.626 Failed to init MythContext, exiting.

It looks like the backend is trying to connect to the local database instead of the one on the master. Why is this? How can I change it?
thanks.

I got this from the mythtv.org docs:
Quote:
NOTE: Slave backends must not run a local MySQL daemon. By default, they will connect to their local daemon rather than the central database, causing unexpected behavior such as empty "Watch Recordings" lists and a failure to locate the Video Sources defined on the master backend. Modify the /usr/local/share/mythtv/mysql.txt file on all slave backends to ensure that the DBHostName has the address of the MySQL server.

now, following cesman's linHES documentation he has us do something similar, but in a different location. Does KnoppMyth's backend look for this configuration file in a different place?

SUCCESS!!!!
Okay, here's what you want to edit:
/etc/mythtv/mysql.txt

Cecil, maybe it's time to update linHES? Or maybe I should put an entry into the wiki for slave backends...

I have looked everywhere and tried everything. In fact I followed someone else's post and I hosed the ability of the IR Receiver.

I installed R5A30.1 and the remote works automatically but following another post suggestion to upgrade ivtv to 0.4.2. I now can't even get the remote to work. I am thinking of moving over to serial port based receiver and transmitter.

Below is my log output
